Newmarket Handicap

The VRC Newmarket Handicap is a Group 1 thoroughbred horse race held at Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne, Australia. The event is an open handicap race over 1200 metres (6 furlongs). Prizemoney in 2006 will be AUD$1.0 million.
From 2007 the race will be the second leg of the Global Sprint Challenge, replacing the Australia Stakes. The race will be preceded in the series by the Lightning Stakes, and followed by the King's Stand Stakes.
