Nilgiris (mountains)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Nilgiri (Tamil : நீலகிரி or literally: Blue Mountains) are the name given to a range of mountains panning across the states of Tamilnadu and Kerala in Southern India. They are part of the larger Western Ghats mountain chain making up the western edge of the Deccan Plateau. They are often referred to as the Nilgiri hills.
The highest point in these mountains is the mountain of Doddabetta, with a height of 2,637 m.
A district of the state of Tamilnadu lies within these mountains. This is called The Nilgiris District.
