[edit] History
This station was opened in 1985 upon the commencement of the Island Line. Until 2001, the station was only used by the line. Between 2001 and 2002, this station was expanded to a cross-platform interchange and 2 new platforms served as the temporary terminus of Kwun Tong Line. On August 4, 2002, the section of Tseung Kwan O Line from this station to Yau Tong was introduced to get passengers familiar with the new interchange mode. From August 18 of the same year until now, this station serves as the interchange station between the present two lines as well as the terminus of Tseung Kwan O Line.
[edit] Platforms
Upper Level
- Platform 2: Island Line to Sheung Wan
- Platform 4: Tseung Kwan O Line termination platform
Passengers arriving at North Point on the Tseung Kwan O Line must all alight at Platform 4. They then have the option of walking along one of several considerably long hallways to reach the Island Line platform on the same level. Most passengers bound for Chai Wan would have changed trains at Quarry Bay. Therefore the indicator lights on the system maps in the trains will only highlight the areas west of North Point as the train travels from Quarry Bay to North Point.
Lower Level
- Platform 1: Island Line to Chai Wan
- Platform 3: Tseung Kwan O Line to Po Lam
Passengers travelling from the areas to the west of North Point who wish to travel towards destinations in East Kowloon and Tseung Kwan O can get off at platform 1 and change to the Tseung Kwan O Line at platform 3. Unlike many other MTR termini, the MTR train at platform 3 will only stay at North Point for a brief moment before leaving the station. Since the 2 platforms, although located on the same level, are considerably far apart, it is not uncommon for passengers to run across the concourse when trains on both lines both arrive at the station simultaneously.
