The word Nur or Noor has several meanings:
- *nur is a Proto-Indo-European root denoting water or river. As such it is a part of several river and city names in Europe, including Narew, Narva and Neretva
- An-Noor (The Light), 64 ayat, the 24th sura of the Qur'an
- Nur is also a river in Poland
- Nur is also a town in Masovia, located at the above-mentioned river, one of the ancient cultural centres of the region
- nur also means "only" in German
- nur or noor also means "light" in Arabic, Persian, Urdu
- Nur is also a nick-name of Ayman al-Zawahiri
- Nur ibn Mujahid was a 16th century ruler of Harar
- Risale-i Nur Collection is a collection of work by Islamic scholar Said Nursi
- Nur Mountains "Mountains of Holy Light" is also a mountain range in Turkey
