The word Nur or Noor has several meanings:
- *nur is a Proto-Indo-European root denoting water or river. As such it is a part of several river and city names in Europe, including Narew, Narva and Neretva
- An-Noor (The Light), 64 ayat, the 24th sura of the Qur'an
- Nur is also a river in Poland
- Nur is also a town in Masovia, located at the above-mentioned river, one of the ancient cultural centres of the region
