Killing in the Name is de debuutsingle van de Amerikaanse band Rage Against the Machine. De single is afkomstig van het album Rage Against the Machine, wat uitgebracht werd in 1992. De single zelf komt uit 1993. Killing in the Name is tot op heden één van de bekendste nummers van Rage Against the Machine.
Het nummer gaat over racisme in Amerikaanse overheidsinstanties. Met de regel `Some of those that work forces, are the same that burn crosses´ doelt de band op de Ku Klux Klan. Deze extreem-rechtse groepering had als kenmerk het verbranden van kruizen. Tijdens sommige concerten verandert De la Rocha deze zin in ‘Some of those that burn crosses, are the same who hold office’ in het tweede couplet. Ook was Killing in the Name een nummer waarbij de band vaak een Amerikaanse vlag verbrandde.
De gitaarsolo van Tom Morello in Killing in the Name wordt geproduceerd met behulp van een Digitech Whammy, een apparaat wat voor verschuivingen in toonhoogten kon zorgen. Deze Digitech Whammy is op elk album van Rage Against the Machine te horen.
Op 31 augustus 1999 bracht de band deze single opnieuw uit, maar deze keer met twee nummers die nog niet eerder waren uitgebracht: Darkness of Greed en Clear the Lane.
