Built 1545/1546 as trading store by Sebastian Lorenz sr. The ground floor was used for selling wine and meat, the upper floor contained selling stands of cloth makers, furriers and shoemakers, as well as an elegant wine bar "Ratstrinkstube".
1683-1687, the building was rebuilt, incorporating a municipal festive hall (Städtischer Festsaal) in the upper floor. In 1727, the German theatre actress and impresario, Caroline Neuber (die Neuberin) performed in the hall. In 1834 and 1836, the pianist, Clara Schumann played in the hall.
Since 1880, the building is used as a restaurant "Ratskeller".
