It should be noted that the selection of Dale Hackbart in 1960 was actually made by the Minnesota franchise which dropped out of the AFL after being offered an NFL franchise. Thus making way for the Oakland Raiders. The Raiders inherited that selection rather than making it themselves. The first selection by the Raiders franchise was Joe Rutgens in 1961. It should also be noted that neither player actually signed a contract with the Raiders choosing instead the NFL.
