[edit] Biography (movie)
Octopussy is a jewel smuggler who lives a life of luxury. Her father studied octopuses, hence the nickname Octopussy; her real name is unknown. Octopussy owns her own circus and floating palace which she lives in. Magda, the ring leader of the circus, works with her and, together, they work with Kamal Khan to get a Faberge egg.
When Bond arrives at her palace, Khan orders him killed. However, Bond escapes, and Octopussy helps him dispose of his would-be assassins. He escapes to Germany while she gets on her circus train to the U.S. Air Force base Khan is planning to bomb. When Bond finds out about Khan's plan, he rushes off to save to base. Octopussy then uncovers the bomb for Bond to disarm.
Octopussy and the circus head off to Khan's palace and attack the guards, while she confronts Khan for double-crossing her. As she is about to take her revenge, however, Khan's henchman, Gobinda, knocks her unconscious and takes her aboard Khan's plane. Bond grabs on and kills Gobinda, frees Octopussy and saves her from a near fall as the plane explodes. Later, on her boat, Bond and Octopussy get time to themselves.
[edit] Biography (book)
In the Ian Fleming novel, Octopussy and the Living Daylights, Octopussy was the name of the pet octopus that Major Dexter Smythe loved. The role of Octopussy was heavily symbolic and, towards the end of the novel, a key element in the story.
