Oregon State Fair
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Oregon State Fair is the official state fair of the U.S. state of Oregon. It takes place every August-September in the state capital, Salem.
The first unofficial state fair was held in 1858 (the date the state agency that runs the fair uses for its anniversary), and the first official fair was held in 1861 in the Gladstone/Oregon City area. The second official state fair was held in Salem, on the same grounds it is held on today.
The state fairground is the site of two historic buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the Oregon State Fair Stadium and Poultry Building Ensemble. They were added to the register in 2002. [1] The poultry building is known for the "chicken head" relief sculptures that decorate the exterior.
