Oregon United States Senate election, 2008
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Oregon Senate Election of 2008 will be held on November 4, 2008. Republican Senator Gordon Smith has indicated that he is likely to seek reelection.[citation needed] This senate contest may be one of the most competitive senate races during the 2008 election.[1] Democrat Ty Pettit announced his candidacy in early 2006,[2] and political activist Steve Novick is also considered likely to seek the Democratic nomination as of early 2007.[3] State Senator Ben Westlund, who recently switched from the Republican to the Democratic party, is frequently cited as a potential contender[citation needed], as is Portland Congressman Earl Blumenauer,[4]
Many other likely Democratic contenders have announced they will not run, including Peter DeFazio [5], John Kitzhaber[6], and Bill Bradbury.[citation needed]
