I wanted to download this image, but I have dial-up and I can't because it's huge. I know there's a smaller version, but it's not as detailed. Could someone put it in another format that has better compression so I can still see it in all its glory without a huge download? Nick Warren 01:08, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] JPG?
What is the point of having a huge picture with JPG compression on it, you would get more detail out of a smaller image with zip compression (or something else non-lossy). I don't get it.
- The uncompressed TIFF version of the image is 385 MB (you can download it from the NASA page that's linked), which is probably why the much smaller JPEG was chosen. Even with PNG compression, the filesize will still be huge. --Chaos386 10:34, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Doesn't work
As of 10 am Eastern time and continuing at least until 1 pm Eastern (at which time this was written and submitted), the download simply doesn't work. On my 300KB/s broadband connection I get 300KB/s for about one second, and then the throughput completely tanks. Network activity monitor shows an initial spike and then a virtually flat line.
If the server is fouled up or overloaded and there are arbitrary size limits being imposed by unaccountable persons and various other problems, perhaps a bittorrent would have been more useful ... :)--74.104.131.76 18:02, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
- The image was picture of the day. That means it is the most popular file for that day, and it was a big one, I bet the servers got overloaded. Once it is no longer picture of the day it should be better. HighInBC (Need help? Ask me) 23:57, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

- What link? The link to the 18kx18k image? I just tried it again and the "jpg" file I get doesn't work and is only 600-odd bytes long. Renaming it to end in "html" I see it says Error 404 and some other crap.
