[edit] ORX-005 (ORX-05, CRX-005) Gaplant
This transformable mobile weapon was developed by the Augusta (Clarks Hill) Research Institute & Oakland Research Institute as a space-use mobile suit but it also proved to be highly efficient in atmospheric flight. The Gaplant proved to be one of the fastest and most agile mobile weapons when in mobile armor mode and thanks to its active thruster units it was able to change direction during flight without the need of changing the direction of its nose. However because of the extreme G-forces which pressed on the pilot during high speed flight, the Gaplant could only be used by the physically toughest humans or by an enhanced cyber-Newtype. Another problem was its high fuel consumption. Because of this the Gaplant was equipped with an external booster in MA form when it needed to fly longer distances.
Although it isn’t known how many Gaplants were produced only two units were seen. The first was used by cyber-Newtype Rosamia Bidan during her attack on the Audhumla after the AEUG’s attack on the Jaburo base and the second unit was used by Titan pilot Yazan Gable who used his unit in space.
In U.C.0203, Gaplant became remains of a past mobile suit, and it arrived at the southern island. Afranci Char determined to see it and to fight. (Gaia Gear)
[edit] Variants
[edit] ORX-005 Gaplant TR-5 [Hrairoo]
An enhanced version of Gaplant, the TR-5 Hrairoo is designed mainly as an Area Dominance Mobile Armor, similar in purpose to GP03D Dendrobrium, but for all three major envrionment (atmosphere, ground, space). Numerous additional thrusters and armor were mounted onto it, greatly increasing its maneuvurability and defense. Its main armament, the long blade rifle, can also be equipped with 2 booster-type shields, which increase its linear motions (standard booster shields), attack ability (micromissiles) or defense ability (spray beam shield. Furthermore, it has shoulder booster-claw units, which has beam emitters hidden in its claws, and can mount the long blade rifle to form a very powerful beam cannon.
First appears in Advance of Zeta: The Flag of Titans novel, design by Kenki Fujioka.
[edit] ORX-005 Gaplant TR-5 [Fiver]
A special Gaplant design for supersonic penetration via a ballistic trajectory tactic, similar to Intercontinental ballistic missile. A ballistic trajectory involves launching from the surface and temporarily escaping the atmosphere. After re-entering the atmosphere, the machine follows a parabolic course to its target point while maintaining the vast acceleration obtained from the effects of gravity. The base machine of Fiver is Gaplant in mobile armor mode with new sensor installed and beam cannon removed, the base Gaplant would be combined with addition parts. The backpack unit contains three generators of various sizes, and connects directly to the Gaplant's own back thrusters. A nose unit is attached to the front of the machine, and a heat-resistant field unit with coolant gas emitters is attached to its underside. Two defensive binders are attached to the backpack unit and the Gaplant's arms. Each defensive binder contains one I-field generator and ten beam cannons, whose protective covers are blown off prior to use. Since the I-field generators consume virtually all of the machine's energy output, the beam cannons are powered by energy packs. The lower section of each binder houses a rack of twelve energy packs for this purpose, and this section terminates in a thruster and propellant tank. Each binder can also carry one escort mobile suit, and the upper section of each binder has a manipulator arm to hold these mobile suits in place. The upper and lower sections can be opened up so that the diffuse beam cannons all face forward.
First appears in Advance of Zeta: The Flag of Titans novel, design by Kenki Fujioka.
[edit] MAK-005S (ORX-005S) Gaplant Kai
At a major turning point, AEUG leader Quattro Bajeena broke into the Federation's national assembly at Dakar and denounced the Titans before the world. Learning the truth, the Federation quickly moved to support the AEUG and oppose the Titans. The MAK-005S Gaplant Kai ("Kai" is Japanese Kanji character "改". In English means "Modified".) was developed at the Augusta Newtype Lab and supplied to AEUG's terrestrial branch, Karaba. While it isn't transformable like original Gaplant, the Gaplant Kai is a high-performance mobile armor capable of both space and atmospheric combat. The wing-mounted beam cannons of the original Gaplant were replaced with scattering beam cannons, which were supplemented with the addition of vulcan guns and missile launchers. However, since Karaba already has Z Plus mobile suit series, Gaplant Kai's production was limited to twenty units and used primarily to attack enemy units as they entered the atmosphere.
First appears in SD Gundam G Generation F video game, design by Junya Ishigaki.
