Oshikango is a small town in northern Namibia, near the Angolan border.
In mid 2005, the second stage of the new Northern Railway began construction to Oshikango from Oshivelo. By mid-2006, it had reached Ondangwa with the government opening it officially. A train called Onghulumbase now travels weekly on this track.
This constituency contains many villages, with Omafo and Oshikango being the business centers. Villagers mainly feed on agriculture, bearing the risk of periodic drought. One of the well known villages is Okanghudi, the birthplace of Hifikepunye Pohamba, the President of Namibia.
Economically, the constituency is active with a project in progress to create a big town called Helao Nafidi Town. This town is intended to benefit many villagers, although some oppose it. Plans to build a casino, swimming pool, club, entertainment centre, shopping complex and many other modern buildings are currently underway.
In Oshikango town, life is a struggle with poverty raging here and there. Despite this, the economy is booming and many are figuring out other ways of survival. The main income comes in from Angolan nationals, as Oshikango sits on the Namibian border with Angola.
