[edit] Rationale of fair use for Crip Walk
The image Image:PaidTheCostScans-SnoopCwalk-(dubcnn).jpg is being linked here; though the picture is originally copyright, I (Lajbi Holla @ meWho's the boss?) feel it is covered by fair use because:
- The image is an inlay cover for the album Paid The Cost to be Da Boss created by Priority Records, and intended for wide distribution.
- The cover is of lower resolution and quality than the original CD (copies made from it will be of inferior quality).
- No free or public domain images have been located for this album.
- The cover does not limit the copyright owners' rights to distribute the album in any way.
- The cover is a part of a photoshoot and portrays Snoop Dogg while he performs C-walking, thus it serves solely illustrational purposes.
- The cover is being used for informational purposes only, and its use is not believed to detract from the original album in any way.
- The cover artwork has been published in various media (see dubcnn.com for example)
[edit] Licensing
This image is of a cover of an audio recording, and the copyright for it is most likely owned by either the publisher of the album or the artist(s) which produced the recording or cover artwork in question. It is believed that the use of low-resolution images of such covers
- solely to illustrate the audio recording in question,
- on the English-language Wikipedia, hosted on servers in the United States by the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation,
qualifies as fair use under United States copyright law. Any other uses of this image, on Wikipedia or elsewhere, may be copyright infringement. See Wikipedia:Fair use for more information.
To the uploader: please add a detailed fair use rationale for each use, as described on Wikipedia:Image description page, as well as the source of the work and copyright information.
This work is copyrighted and unlicensed. It does not fall into one of the blanket fair use categories listed at Wikipedia:Fair use#Images or Wikipedia:Fair use#Audio_clips. However, it is believed that the use of this work in the article "Crip Walk":
- To illustrate the object in question
- Where no free equivalent is available or could be created that would adequately give the same information
- On the English-language Wikipedia ([1]), hosted on servers in the United States by the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation ([2]),
qualifies as fair use under United States copyright law. Any other uses of this image, on Wikipedia or elsewhere, may be copyright infringement. See Wikipedia:Fair use and Wikipedia:Copyrights.
To the uploader: this tag is not a sufficient claim of fair use. You must also include the source of the work, all available copyright information, and a detailed fair use rationale.
