Palo Verde is a census-designated place (CDP) in Imperial County, California, United States. The population was 236 at the 2000 census. It is part of the 'El Centro, California Metropolitan Statistical Area'. State Route 78 (Ben Hulse Highway) goes north-south through the community. The majority of its population lives east of SR78 and west of the nearby Colorado River.
The Imperial County line passes just north of the town. A community named Ripley, in Riverside County lies along SR78 between Blythe and Palo Verde.
ZIP Code for the community is 92266 and there is no postal delivery, (residents use post office boxes). There is a U.S. Postal Service post office and an Imperial County Sheriff's substation.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 236 people, 130 households, and 60 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 154.4/km² (401.2/mi²). There were 218 housing units at an average density of 142.7/km² (370.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 78.81% White, 0.85% Black or African American, 14.83% from other races, and 5.51% from two or more races. 19.49% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 130 households out of which 16.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 35.4% were married couples living together, 6.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 53.8% were non-families. 50.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 33.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 1.82 and the average family size was 2.63.
In the CDP the population was spread out with 17.8% under the age of 18, 1.3% from 18 to 24, 19.5% from 25 to 44, 29.2% from 45 to 64, and 32.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 55 years. For every 100 females there were 110.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 104.2 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP was $12,772, and the median income for a family was $14,333. Males had a median income of $13,281 versus $9,792 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $7,275. About 44.7% of families and 47.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including 70.7% of those under the age of eighteen and 13.3% of those sixty five or over.
