Pará (pron. IPA: [pa.'ɾa]) is one of the states of Brazil, located in the northern part of the country. Neighboring states are (from north clockwise) Amapá, Maranhão, Tocantins, Mato Grosso, Amazonas and Roraima. To the north it also borders Guyana and Suriname (which has a district named Para).

Pará is a territory of mostly tropical moist forest, covering a vast area of Amazon Rainforest.

Several rebellions during colonial times occurred in this state. (see History of Brazil).

The white stripe in the flag represents the zodiac. The blue star is Spica in the constellation Virgo, which is also depicted on the Flag of Brazil representing the state. The two red areas symbolize the vigor of the local people.
