Pedro Monzón

Pedro Damián Monzón (born February 23, 1962, Goya, Corrientes) is an Argentine football coach and former footballer, best known for being the first player to be sent off in a World Cup final, during the Italy 1990 competition.
Moncho Monzón played in different clubs, but most importantly in Independiente, with which he obtained 4 titles, including the Intercontinental Cup in 1984.

With the Argentina national team he scored one goal against Romania in the 1990 World Cup. In the World Cup Final referee Edgardo Codesal sent him off for a contentious foul on Jürgen Klinsmann of West Germany, 15 minutes after Monzón replaced a fellow player. Argentina lost the game 1-0 to a debatable penalty.

After retirement, Monzón has coached different clubs in Mexico and Ecuador, as well as young divisions of Mexico and Argentina. In Ecuador, he was suspended for 2 months while coaching club Olmedo for agressions towards a referee.
He is currently employed as the manager of CD Veracruz in the Primera División de México, but he still dreams of returning to his beloved Independiente as manager.
