Pennsylvania Route 191 is a major highway in the Pennsylvania Highway System with a length of 100 miles. It runs from Lehigh Valley Thruway (US 22) in Brodhead, Pennsylvania to the New York state line over the Delaware River at Hancock, New York. This highway is another way to get to The Poconos.

[edit] Northampton County
PA 191 begins at an interchange with U.S. Route 22 in Bethlehem Township, PA 191 is called Nazareth Pike at the interchange. As Nazareth Pike, PA 191 meets the eastern terminus of Pennsylvania Route 946 in Lower Nazareth Township. In Nazareth, PA 191 has a short concurrency with Pennsylvania Route 248. In Nazareth, PA 191 is called Broad Street, Center Street, New Street and East Lawn Road. East of Nazareth in Stockertown, PA 191is called Main Street and meets Pennsylvania Route 33 at an interchange. East of the PA 33 interchange, PA 191 meets Sullivan Trail, the former Pennsylvania Route 115. From Stockertown to Bangor PA 191 is called Bangor Road then Washington Boulevard. In Bangor, PA 191 meets Pennsylvania Route 512. In Roseto, PA 191 is called Roseto Avenue. In Upper Mount Bethel Township PA 191 is called Valley View Road.

In Stroudsburg, PA 191 is called Mountain Road and Broad Street and PA 191 meets Pennsylvania Route 611 as Fox Town Hill Road. Note passengers that want to take Interstate 80 east/ U.S. Route 209 north have to take PA 611 and passengers that want to take Interstate 80 west/ U.S. Route 209 south continue on PA 191. In downtown Stroudsburg, PA 191 meets US 209 Business which lead passengers to East Stroudsburg. In Stroud Township, after crossing the railroad PA 191 begins a duplex with Pennsylvania Route 447 for 2 miles. In Paradise Township, PA 191 intersects the northern terminus of Pennsylvania Route 715 in the village of Henryville. 3 miles north of PA 715, PA 191 meets the eastern terminus of Pennsylvania Route 940. More than 1 mile north of PA 940, PA 191 begins a concurrency with Pennsylvania Route 390. In Mountainhome, the concurrency with PA 390 ends.

PA 191 slides over into Pike County for less than a mile as La Anna Road.

After crossing a small creek, PA 191 has entered Wayne County. PA 191 enters Wayne County as South Sterling Road and intersecting the northern terminus of Pennsylvania Route 423. In the village of Haags Mill in Dreher Township, PA 191 is called Main Street and begins a concurrency with Pennsylvania Route 507. During the duplex with PA 507 in the village of Newfoundland, PA 191/ PA 507 meet the northern terminus of Pennsylvania Route 447. A quarter of a mile north of PA 447, the concurrency with PA 507 comes to an end. In Sterling Township, PA 191 intersects Interstate 84 at exit 17. A quarter mile north of I-84, PA 191 begins a multiplex with Pennsylvania Route 196 as the Easton Turnpike. In the village of Hamlin, PA 191/PA 196 intersect Pennsylvania Route 590. North of Hamlin, in Salem Township, the concurrency with PA 196 ends at an "Y" intersection. In Lake Township, PA 191 is called Lake Ariel Highway. PA 191 passes west of Lake Ariel and in the village of Lake Ariel PA 191 intersects the southern terminus of Pennsylvania Route 296. PA 191 races off towards the northeast as Lake Ariel Hwy without seeing a route for more than 13 miles. In the town of Honedale, PA 191 is called Sunrise Avenue and Erie Street. In downtown Honesdale, PA 191 begins a short duplex with U.S. Route 6. As Main Street, PA 191 intersects the southern terminus of Pennsylvania Route 670. PA 191 is now called Hancock Highway as it goes northeast towards New York. In Lebanon Township, PA 191 meets Pennsylvania 371. When PA 191 enters Buckingham Township, PA 191 begins to parallel the Delaware River. South of the northern terminus of PA 191, it meets the northern terminus of Pennsylvania Route 370. As Winterdale Road, PA 191 crosses the Delaware River and enters the state of New York and this marks as the northern terminus of PA 191. The road that is PA 191 in Pennsylvania is called Pennsylvania Avenue in Hancock, New York that intersects New York State Route 97 and NY 97 connects to New York State Route 17. [2]

Until 1961, PA 191 between Stockertown and the New York state line, as well as the Sullivan Trail from Stockertown to Easton, was known as Pennsylvania Route 90. In 1961, PA 90 was decommissioned and replaced with PA 191 from Stockertown to the state line and Pennsylvania Route 115 from Stockertown to Easton. PA 115 has since been truncated to Brodheadsville.
