[edit] Trivia
- This episode would mark the shortest time Pee-wee has ever been around, seen or heard.
- When Pee-wee says that his recorded message would self-destruct in three seconds, it's a reference to Mission: Impossible.
- Prior to this episode, Dog Chair had only made panting sounds and the occasional bark. When Miss Yvonne is dancing, she moves in front of Dog Chair and lifts one of her legs up behind her. Dog Chair gets a prime view up her dress and barks. Miss Yvonne turns around and scolds him with a glare and a wagging finger.
- Episode clips are as follows (in flashback form):
- Reba Eats and Pterri Runs (Breakfast with Reba; Pterri Running Away with some differently-recorded lines)
- Open House (Floory discovered)
- Chairry Tee Drive (The successful charity drive, but with different footage, showing Ricardo actually entering the playhouse)
- Fire In the Playhouse (The playhouse narrowly avoiding burning down)
- Pajama Party (Pee-wee marrying the fruit salad, with some differently-recorded lines and cheering)
- Episode clips used during "The Way We Were":
- Love That Story
- Open House
- Spring
- Store
- Reba Eats and Pterri Runs
- Dr. Pee-Wee and the Del Rubios
- Pee-wee Catches a Cold
- Why Wasn't I Invited?
- Chairry Tee Drive
- Tons of Fun
- Playhouse Day
- Pee-wee's Playhouse Christmas Special
- Accidental Playhouse
- Front Page Pee-wee
- Rebarella
- Miss Yvonne's Visit
- Tango Time
- Sick? Did Somebody Say Sick?
- Let's Play Office
- Curiously, no episodes from Season One are included in any flashbacks (unlike in I Remember Curtis). The characters from that season—such as Dixie, Captain Carl, and Tito—also don't make any reappearances.
[edit] After Finale
On July 26, 1991, Paul Reubens (who does Pee-wee on the show) was arrested in Sarasota, Florida, for allegedly performing illegal sexual act in public during a screening of an adult film in an adult movie theater. The news media went into a frenzy and the scandal marked the near-death of the character "Pee-wee Herman," reducing both the actor and the persona to a ubiquitous punchline. Although the series Pee-wee's Playhouse had already ended by that time, CBS reacted by dropping its reruns from their lineup (ironically, Pee-Wee had ended the last episode that aired before the scandal with "The Playhouse will always be here, for everyone to play in.") Reubens made a deal with the Sarasota County court: in exchange for a fine and a few public service announcements, he was given a clean record. Reubens appeared as Pee-wee for the last time in the September 5, 1991, the day that MTV Video Music Awards aired, where he was given a standing ovation from the crowd when Pee-wee asked the audience, "Heard any good jokes lately?" However, now the Reruns air on late-night Cartoon Network, otherwise known as Adult Swim at midnight and 3:30 AM.
