[edit] A New Idea
At the end of the 1960s de Silva de la Barrera family had an idea. They wanted to start a mobile DJ system. The two primary creators, Apolinar and Maria, decided to combine their names into one and called it Poly-marchs. They finally began their sound system in 1979 where Apolinar Silva de La Barrera and Jaime Ruelas would be temporary DJs for a couple of years. Polymarchs performed many gigs in the vicinity of Mexico City which included the suburbs of Ecatepec, Naucalpan, Coacalco, and many more. Disco music was popular at the time and Polymarchs set up gigs so that teenagers could go and have a good time to the music that was in style. Disco music was coming to an end by the 1980s and new hi-NRG music was now in style. So Polymarchs switched to more "focused" hi-NRG style.
[edit] The Growth of Popularity
Polymarchs became well known in Mexico City by 1981 and by 1982, Polymarchs increased their equipment and improved it. Which included in getting the new "Technics" turntables that were for now DJs. Polymarchs became a pioneer of hi-NRG music by having hi-NRG legends like Patrick Cowley and Frank Loverde to come and do gigs by 1983. Polymarchs also started doing gigs in Puebla and Acapulco. That same year, Apolinar's brother Tony came to be the new DJ for the sound system. Tony found his passion in Polymarchs and decided to stick with it for fifteen more years. In 1983, the famous hi-NRG singer Frank Loverde came to Mexico for a live show at Casa Popular gymnasium in Southern side of Mexico City. The show was a success and now Polymarchs gained more popularity as the gigs kept on coming and more lights were on their way directly from New York City.
[edit] Long contract with Musart
Many Polymarchs fans loved hi-NRG music and wanted mixed cassettes (there were no CDs at the time)by Tony. One day the most popular label, Musart came to Polymarchs and agreed on a recording contract. By 1984, Polymarchs released their first mix on vinyl and cassette Polymarchs VOL. 1. The mix contained artists like Sylvester, Rofo, Paul Parker, Miquel Brown and Evelyn Thomas. The album went platinum by 1985, and Polymarchs decided to release more. By 1985 VOL 2, the two mix VOL 3, and in 1986 VOL 4, 5, and 6.

Many other people wanted to be like Polymarchs and decided to start more and more Mobile DJ sound systems and by 1986 more than 40 sound systems were in Mexico City alone. Today, there are more than 200 of these sound systems but they all vary in music style. Most of these sound systems are either Techno or Cumbia sound systems.
[edit] Tapps's role in Polymarchs
Tapps the hi-NRG group was still around in 1985, and did a couple of these concerts in Mexico only with Polymarchs. Tony befriended the composer, Allan Coelho, and the two became good friends. In 1987, Tony worked with Allan and with Hernani Raposo to compose several songs for the Mexican freestyle group Click. After the Click time, Tapps did another gig with Polymarchs in October of 1989 along with band Kinky Go which marked the Master Production for the Golden album of Polymarchs. After the hi-NRG time was over, Polymarchs went Techno and so did Tony Barrera. He made his artist name Tony B. and made a couple of songs with Allan Coelho from 1991 - 1997.
[edit] Tragedy in 1998
Polymarchs' DJ, Choreographer and singer was found choked to death in a hotel room in southern Mexico City. The murderer was not found. The motive was assumed to be a strong rebel of Homosexuality movement. Tony B. was rumoured to be Homosexual but this was not proven. After his death in May the Tony B album was released on Musart and Polymarchs had to go on. They hired a DJ who used to be with another rival of Polymarchs, Winners, Victor Estrella. Victor became the new DJ and Polymarchs returned on track even after their fallen idol.
[edit] Regains success in the New Millenium
Polymarchs regained its popularity and more gigs were held but there was no more Tony. The fans loved Tony and they knew that Polymarchs would never be the same as it was before. Poly and Victor decided to make a Tribute concert to Tony at the Zocalo where more than 20,000 people attended. The show was a success but there were no more hi-NRG artist live gigs. So in 2003, celebrating the 5th anniversary of his death, a special Tribute at Casa Popular was hosted and the hi-NRG legend, Tapps, returned from Canada. The event was 100% hi-NRG and the fans were glad. In the year following Polymarchs tried to get more hi-NRG artists return to Mexico with Polymarchs. The next year was no different, Tapps returned along with Yoh-Yo and Bobby Orlando with Oh Romeo in a special hi-NRG event again at Casa Popular. The event was another success.

DJ Victor Estrella befriended tribal artists, DJ Sobrino and DJ Vampiro. They all had released under the Musart label and in 2005, Victor and Vampiro released "La Culebritica" a tribal, cumbia, electro track. This was premiered at the December 15 concert at the Zocalo where Techno, hi-NRG and Tribal sessions were played. In 2006 the full EP was released on Musart and fame also escalated in Polymarchs and Victor Estrella's tracks. So much fame that on December 31, 2006. Musart released "Polymarchs Latino". Full mix sessions which included Tribal music and Reggaeton music. Polymarchs has, is , and will be a great pioneer in the hi-NRG, Techno, Tribal, and Reggae sounds.
