Prinplup (ポッタイシ? Pottaishi in original Japanese language versions) are one of the 493 fictional species of Pokémon creatures from the multi-billion-dollar[1] Pokémon media franchise – a collection of video games, anime, manga, books, trading cards and other media, created by Satoshi Tajiri. Prinplup are famous for evolving from one of the three species of Pokémon the player can choose at the start of their adventure in the Diamond and Pearl versions of the series. The purpose of Prinplup in the games, anime and manga, as with all other Pokémon, is to battle both wild Pokémon, untamed creatures encountered while the player passes through various environments, and tamed Pokémon owned by Pokémon trainers.[2]
The name Prinplup is a portmanteau of the words prince and plup, which may be a portmanteau of the words plump and plop, an onomatopoeia for something hitting water. Its Japanese name Pottaishi is a portmanteau of the Japanese words referring to splashing in water (ぽちゃぽちゃ pochapocha?) and crown prince (皇太子 kōtaishi?).

Biological characteristics
In appearance, Prinplup resembles a Fiordland Penguin. The particular blue coloration of its body makes it appear to be wearing a coat; the white circular patterns on its belly resemble buttons. It also has a distinct dual crest on its head resembling a tiara or a crown.
In addition to its royal appearance, each colony appears to be founded by a single individual, as each one considers itself to be the most important one.
Prinplup's most effective weapons are its flippers, which are strong enough to snap a tree in two. A single strike could be deadly.
In the video games
Prinplup is stronger than Piplup, and it is an above-average Pokémon. It has decent stats in Special Attack and Special Defense, which adds to its potential as a special tank.
Prinplup evolves from Piplup at level 16 and learns Metal Claw immediately. Prinplup evolves into Empoleon at level 36.
