Prljavo kazalište
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Prljavo kazalište is a rock band from Croatia formed in Zagreb in 1977. At the beginning they were a punk rock[1] group which later affiliated with the New Wave becoming one of the most important acts of the former Yugoslav New Wave scene. Their name is Croatian for 'Dirty Theatre' which is a title of an episode of the comic book series Alan Ford. Later they moved on to mainstream pop-rock music achieving great commercial success. On October 17 1989 the band played an unforgettable show in Zagreb, in front of approximately 250,000–300,000 people at Ban Jelačić Square during which they stirred up nationalist feelings among the Croatian youths in the crowd with their song "Ruža Hrvatska". During the Croatian War of Independence from Yugoslavia, Prljavo Kazalište became one of the most famous group in Croatia, as it was one of the few Ex-Yugoslav Croatian bands that espoused Croatian patriotism and thus was not confined to the margin.
