Project Gotham Racing 2 (PGR2 for short) is a racing game for the Xbox, developed by Bizarre Creations and published by Microsoft. PGR2 is the sequel to the highly successful Project Gotham Racing. It is the second title in the Project Gotham Racing series.
As in PGR, the route to advancement in PGR2 differs from most racing games. Advancement in PGR2 required a combination of driving fast enough to meet the challenge set, and scoring enough Kudos points to advance. Kudos points are gained through the player's driving skills, such as power sliding around a corner at speed, or overtaking other NPCs in the race. The Kudos system, challenges set, available cars and the tracks around which players race were expanded greatly from the original.
PGR2 supports Xbox Live and allows players to race against other people all around the world.
The in-game garage features the cult-classic mini-game Geometry Wars.
PGR2 is not compatible with the Xbox 360. It is unknown whether this is because of incompatibility or to give PGR3, an Xbox 360 exclusive, a head start.

[edit] Kudos
Kudos points can be gained in the ways listed below. When two sets of kudos points are gained within two seconds they are added to a combo list, building up a large point bonus. The bonus combo points are lost if the car crashes into the side of the track or hits a cone. If the car crashes again before the Kudos are added to the bank, all points are lost.
- Slides - Using the handbrake and drift for points.
- 360 - Using the handbrake and spinning around 360 degrees. (100 points for the first, decreasing each time afterwards)
- Good line - Taking a fast line through a turn. (up to 50 points)
- Two wheels - Getting the car on two wheels.
- Cool air - Getting all four wheels off the ground.
- Clean section - Passing through checkpoints without the car having hit the side of the track. (25 points)
- Clean race - Keeping your car clean the entire race. (250 points)
- Drafting - Racing behind another car to reduce air resistance.
- Overtake - Passing other cars. (50 points for the first, decreases when a certain car is passed more than once)
- Overtake Draft - Draft a car, then shoot past it.
- Position bonus - 200 points for 1st place, 100 for 2nd, and 50 for 3rd.
- Time left - 1 point per second.
- Fastest lap - Having the fastest lap time in the race. (100 points)
- Cone gates - Getting through the cones without hitting the cones. (10 points)
Helpful hint from an experienced gamer: Follow the skid marks left behind on the pavement during turns for maximum speed and control.
[edit] Types of races
There are 7 different types of races, each with their own completion criteria.
- Street race - A standard race against up to 7 opponents
- One on one - Racing against one opponent
- Cone challenge - Reach a specific kudos total in the given laps and available time
- Overtake - Overtake a set number of cars in the given time
- Hot Lap - Beat the required lap time
- Timed run - Beat the overall course time over a certain number of laps
- Speed Camera - Reach a certain speed by the end of the track
