Rødøy is a municipality in the county of Nordland, Norway. It consists of islands outside Norway's second biggest glacier, Svartisen.

The Norse form of the name was Rauðøy. The first element is rauðr 'red' (probably referring to the colour of the rocks of the island), the last element is øy f 'island'.

The coat-of-arms is from modern times (1988). The highest mountain of the island is called Rødøyløva 'the lion of Rødøy' (because its profile resembles a lion).
