From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Dr. Rebecca Hendrix is a fictional character on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit portrayed by Mary Stuart Masterson.
Hendrix is a former police officer who became a psychatrist, and now works at Bellevue Hospital. Hendrix helps the SVU team by interviewing victims of sexual assault. She and Olivia Benson were in the police academy together, but Hendrix left to pursue a career in psychiatry, something Benson seems to resent.
Hendrix appeared in three episodes in Season 6 in lieu of George Huang, who was on special assignment with the FBI in Washington, D.C..
While working with SVU, a strong, mutual attraction developed between Hendrix and Benson's partner, Detective Elliot Stabler, who was coping with the collapse of his marriage. Stabler initially denied having feelings for Hendrix in hopes of reconciling with his wife, but grew to trust and care for her as his marriage dissolved beyond saving. In the episode "Ripped", he even opened up to her about deeply personal problems, such as his relationship with his abusive father and the pain he felt over his wife filing for divorce.
