[edit] The People Powered mess-up

I realise people will probably want to discuss this, or know why I acted the way I did, so I'll take this here. If people check out PP's block log, freakofnurture's first blocking reason is 'per IRC discussion'. I'm someone who's not a huge fan of IRC, so, seeing as I considered myself something of a mentor towards him, I tried my best to extract information from various sources. I contacted freakofnurture quite a few times - [516] [517] [518] [519] - even once via e-mail, as I wasn't sure whether he didn't wish to continue the discussion on-wiki - but none of my messages were replied to.

To be honest, back in October, even though I participated in XfDs, vandalfight and new page patrol, I never read ANI, and thus was completely unaware of how seriously we do take banned users. Freakofnurture's lack of response to my messages made me underestimate the gravity of the situation, rather than the opposite. My seeming laxity when trying to help out the sockpuppet of a banned user stems somewhat from my confusion, and a genuine desire to get to the bottom of the situation, for my own satisfaction, but it was also a rather shocked response to 'I will haunt you and everyone you know for as long as you use this website' and 'I now know how the rape of an identity feels'.

So, yeah, I messed up, and I admit it freely. I've grown up and learned more since then, but an oppose on that basis is not entirely unjustifiable. riana_dzasta 02:48, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
