A revolution is a rebellion carried out with the intention of creating an entirely new form of government. Examples are the American war against colonial Britain; the Bolshevik overthrowing of the Russian monarchy to attempt to create a communist society; and the attempt by the Khmer Rouge to start Cambodian history anew.
