Richard & Florence Atwater

Richard and Florence Atwater together wrote the book Mr. Popper's Penguins, which won the 1939 Newbery Honor Award.

Richard Atwater was a newspaper columnist at the University of Chicago. He wrote the first part of the book but was forced to stop due to a serious illness.

Florence was Richard's wife. She completed the book he started.
