Richard Patrick

Richard Patrick is an American rock musician, born May 10, 1968 in Bay Village, Ohio. He is the frontman for the band Filter but is currently focusing on fronting his latest band Army of Anyone. A guitar player since the age of nine, Richard Patrick names U2 and The Cure as primary musical influences. Specifically, it was the flood of sound and the inventive use of technology employed by those artists to which he was drawn.

Patrick had some fun with his unorthodox aural stylings when he spent two and a half years as the touring guitarist in Nine Inch Nails. His only recorded contribution - a droning guitar sound - can be heard at the end of "Sanctified" on pretty hate machine. Due to the fact that Trent Reznor would not allow him any creative input or musical contributions and would often physically abuse him during on stage performances, he chose to leave the band during the recording of The Downward Spiral in 1993.

Following his departure from Nine Inch Nails, he formed his own industrial rock band, Filter, with Brian Liesegang. The band recorded three albums: Short Bus (released 1995), Title of Record (released 1999) and The Amalgamut (released 2002).

For a period, Patrick had a long history with alcoholism - even to the extent that he once got drunk on a plane, took off all his clothes and "wrestled" with flight attendants who tried to subdue him. This was the inspiration for the song Take a Picture. In 2002, however, he entered rehab for alcohol addiction. On November 11, upon completion the treatment, he released this statement on his website:

Hi this is Richard again, I'm alive and kicking! Rehab was the best thing that ever happened to me, my mind is clear, my body is fit and I feel great. Thank you for all your love and support, I definitely felt it over the last 45 days. I can't tell you how great I feel. Rehab has made me rethink everything in my life. Now that I'm not wasting time on getting fucked up, I'll be able to devote more energy toward creating my music. I'll tell you right now that I have big plans for Filter and many other new musical projects that I have going on in my life. I'm so proud of this band and what we've accomplished, even when I was fucked up, but now that I'm straight there's no telling what we can do. So I know this might sound like a cliché letter from rehab, but because I've never said it, it's not cliché to me. So thanks for being there and supporting me through this, I'll write again soon! Patrick has reassured Filter fans many times that Filter's next release is coming soon, despite his intense commitment to Army of Anyone.

[edit] Army Of Anyone

While writing songs for Filter's fourth album, Patrick called up the DeLeo brothers of Stone Temple Pilots to help him write a song. The result was a song called "A Better Place". Due to the chemistry the trio had while writing the song, they decided to form a new band Army of Anyone.

On September 29, 2005 the formation of Army of Anyone was announced. Along with the Dean and Robert DeLeo, the former drummer for David Lee Roth, Ray Luzier, was also added to the line-up.

Army of Anyone's self-titled debut album was released 14th November, 2006.

Richard Patrick is the brother of actor Robert Patrick, who is famous for his roles in Terminator 2: Judgment Day and The X-Files. Robert Patrick can be seen wearing a Nine Inch Nails jacket in some interviews for Terminator 2.
Patrick was married to his wife on 29 October, 2006.
