Richmond Green Secondary School is a public secondary school in Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada. Richmond Green High School is located off of Leslie Street, just north of the intersection with Elgin Mills Road. The school is a part of the York Region District School Board.
The school is a large building (3 floors of classrooms) attached to a public library which also serves as a school library, Richmond Green Public Library. It was named after Richmond Green, the neighbouring Town of Richmond Hill facility that has 3 soccer and 7 baseball fields, two arenas an outdoor skating pad,a skate park, and another bunch of interesting stuff.
[edit] History
Despite officially opening as a high school in 2005, the building was constructed a year earlier and was functioning as a temporary elementary school due to the nearby Lincoln Alexander Public School facing difficulties with construction. As a result, the elementary school was not constructed until 2005 and the students whom were to attend the school spent the first three months of the school year in their current schools and transfered to Richmond Green shortly after the winter break. The school is on the piece of land which is known as Richmond Green. This school has four house colours and the colours are all given a name in wich the four previous owners of the land. This became the four school houses of RGSS. The mascot was chosen by the students and have be predecided before the opening of the school.
[edit] Inauguration
Richmond Greeen boasted a modest enrollment of approximately 350 grade 9 and 10 students and over 30 staff in their inaugural school year. Most of the grade 10 students came from nearby Bayview Secondary School and Richmond Hill High School. The school is currently in its second year, which saw enrollment increase to 580 students as well as grade 11 programs.
