Risdon Vale is an outer suburb of Hobart, capital of Tasmania, Australia. It is the location of Tasmania's only maximum security prison, Risdon Prison and Risdon Women's Prison. It is surrounded by bushlands.

Risdon Vale originally was a Government Iniative to house young hippie families. It was at this time it attracted a bad reputation. 40 or more years on, Risdon Vale now has attractve suburban houses, all privately owned. Many houses have 3 to 4 cars and a boat in their driveway. There are over 20 large acreages surrounding Risdon Vale, many of these are private horse establishments. Fashion, Hydro, Fire Dept, and Airline executives form part of the present population. Insurance statistics show Risdon Vale has one of the lowest crime rates in Tasmania. Risdon Vale is a sun trapped valley - where gardens flourish. The entire Valley is srrounded by the Meehan Range, a beautiful green belt populated by much wildlife.
