[edit] Animated series
Roadbuster was among those Transformers toys that did not appear in the Transformers animated series because the show was going to appear in Japan, where the toy was owned by Takara's rivals.
[edit] Marvel U.K. Comics
Roadbuster made several appearances in the Marvel U.K. comic as a member of the Wreckers lead by Springer.
In issue 99 Marvel U.K. Transformers comic, a story called Under Fire has Optimus Prime arrived on Cybertron, only to be captured by Ultra Magnus. Thanks to misinformation fed to the Autobots by Megatron, they believed this Optimus Prime to be an imposter and Decepticon spy. Ultra Magnus was about to have Optimus Prime executed by Springer, Roadbuster and Twin Twist when Outback intervened and freed Optimus. Ratbat reported the escape to Megatron, who was goaded for his failure by the head of Lord Straxus. Megatron then ordered Octane to have the Decepticons hunt down Optimus and leak word that the Decepticons were hunting down their failed spy. Ultra Magnus and three Guardian Units hunted down Optimus and Outback. Although Optimus defeated two of the Guardian Units, they nearly killed Outback during the fight.
[edit] Dreamwave Productions
Roadbuster appeared in the second volume of the Generation 1 comic and aided Magnus in fighting the rampaging Menasor.

[edit] Transformers: Universe
Although never released, plans for a Transformers: Universe Roadbuster revealed as a possibly Botcon exclusive toy. The toy was a remold of Transformers: Energon Strongarm. Although these plans wer canceled, a similar toy called Fallback was created, a homage to Generation 1 Outback, made from the same original mold.
[edit] Toys
- Generation 1 Roadbuster (1985)
The toy company Hasbro licensed a robot toy from the Japanese anime series Dorvack (1983-1984) to sell under the new name Roadbuster. The original robot was "VV-54 AR Mugen Calibur", and Katsumi Itabashi and Nobuyoshi Haraba designed the mechanics in Dorvack.
In the 1980's Transformers were such a success that Hasbro wanted to get as much product out on the shelves with the Transformers name on it as possible. Since they were running out of old Takara molds to use, they obtained licences to use the molds of other companies' robot toys in the Transformers line. Shockwave, Jetfire, Omega Supreme, Roadbuster, Whirl, Chop Shop, Venom, Barrage and Ransack were among those molds. With the licences to those toys now expired Hasbro and Takara no longer have legal rights to those figures and cannot reissue them.
