[edit] www.ksot.com
Hello Rock. This is _Captain_ from GameFAQs. We have started to discuss things about the future of ksot.com, and you seem to be the only person we can get in touch to in order to transfer the site's FTP to whoever is chosen for the job. I'll fill you in with any details about the situation as time progresses. >_> Sorry if you feel like I'm intruding or anything. --—Captain538[talk] 20:22, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
- I'm still able to update the site. I haven't receieved any emails or anything regarding changes on GameFAQs... if you post any new banned words or stuff like that here, I can put them up. --- RockMFR 01:48, 21 February 2007 (UTC)
- We all figured that since you're gone from GF, you wouldn't update the site anymore. Well anyway, there are two new banned words: "legion of legato" and "gaminglagoon.com". Both can be described as websites that were spammed around the site.
-
- And if you at all feel the need to pass the site on to someone else, there are plenty of people waiting on the line for the throne. —Captain538[talk] 01:58, 21 February 2007 (UTC)
- If you're still updating at all, there is a new banned word and a new auto-flag. "PIHB" is banned and "fap" is auto-flagged. They were both fads predominantly used by RI. —Captain538[talk] 21:50, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
- Alright, I'm really updating this time :) --- RockMFR 22:23, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
- Oh btw, is pihb shown in caps when trying to post it? --- RockMFR 22:39, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
- No, I just put in caps so you'd know it was an acronym. —Captain538[talk] 23:47, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
- A batch of new mods came in today. I can't give you the names right now, but I know that NARC has a topic on them and is updating as time goes on. —Captain538[talk] 04:09, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
Hey Rock, its collambert, now known as BalisongMaster. For wikifaqs, I have proof for the bit about hacked moderators that Bishounen no Miko should be added to the list. Someone slipped up when posting modfiles. Its pretty old, but I still think its worth putting there. BTW, my AIM is krayman10 if you want more info. And you do know about the new moderators right? Wikifaqs has it up. KMK007 02:24, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

For someone who "gave up" GameFAQs, you seem awfully obsessed with maintaining the wikipedia page for it. Why is that? 12 March 2007 17:41 EDT

[edit] Insurgency Mod
Insurgency (mod) official homepage is: http://www.insurgencymod.net and it is not http://mods.moddb.com/3622/insurgency as you stated in your copyright infringement notice.
The Project Leader of Insurgency Mod ([RO]Jeremy), also created the Insurgency Mod PROFILE on moddb.com, as it is a repository of all kinds of gaming mods for all the various game engines.
So, all the info on moddb.com comes from the Official Site of the Insurgency Mod, either from [RO]Jeremy, or from one of the many developers.
The Project Leader of Insurgency (Jeremy) asked for volunteers to help create a Wiki profile for Insurgency Mod. I along with a few others have volunteered, as I am on the Beta Tester Team (Rellik Remag) involved with testing Insurgency Mod.
I can't link directly to the thread, as it is in the restricted section of the forums, reserved for the Development Team & Beta Testers.
There is however, a public thread that got the ball rolling on the Insurgency Mod @ Wiki: http://forums.insmod.net/index.php?showtopic=2238&hl=Wiki
All the material text, logos, pictures, and screen-shots all came from the Official Site and was released to the Public to share with the fans, at one time or another.
The original official INS web site had pages and pages of info. But, the site is currently being re-done and is only down to a single front page and the forums. The NEW official web site will be re-launched soon.
For those of us who have created and participated in the Insurgency Wiki page, we are Wiki noobs.. so if there is anything we can do to clarify that we are indeed in compliance to the copyright rules set fourth by Wiki's rules. Please let us know what we can do further, to prove our case.

[edit] TEOTWAWKI
Please stop removing my link! It is not entirely useless, if you look into the source code and the links, maybe even tried to understand it you would see it's a countdown to the TEOTWAWKI predicted by the mayans on 2012 dec 21st. The sourecode div ids and other layers cleverly explain some of the hidden agendas amongst other clues put around the website.
So no, I won't stop adding it. I will continue to add it until you stop being a nazi and let me publish it as IT IS relevant. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Just dawson (talk • contribs).

[edit] Non-breaking spaces
Hey. I noticed that in this edit, you put a non-breaking space between "233" and "MHz". At first I was totally confused at what you had changed because Firefox was changing the non-breaking space back to a regular whitespace character EVERYWHERE (normal page display, view source, the form on the edit page). I've thought about this for a while, and I've come to the conclusion that you should probably be using instead of using the unicode form of the non-breaking space. It seems that if anyone were to edit that page using Firefox, Firefox would automatically convert the non-breaking space to a normal space character (I assume this is a bug/feature in Firefox). --- RockMFR 22:04, 10 March 2007 (UTC)
- Hi Rock, that's interesting, and yeah, I'd regard that as a bug in Firefox, damn them. I agree, the best workaround for this is probably to use the HTML entity instead, ugly as it is. I'll change I bot to do this. Thanks for the feedback. CmdrObot 22:09, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

You're quite right on both counts. The tagging had slipped my mind. And as far as Sockpuppeteering is concerned, it appears BigDT had already solved that prob... WjBscribe 04:45, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Autoclick links
I just tested it, and it still seems to work (though you already created the page so I can't be sure). Are you sure you're actually clicking the automatic link (it says "create it")? Superm401 - Talk 01:20, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
- Also, do you have JavaScript enabled? Superm401 - Talk 01:21, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
- Thinking again, I believe the auto- parameters only work if the page already exists. For instance, try it today (the history won't change, but you should see the autoclick and summary on the edit page). I know that is pretty much useless for this particular link, so feel free to remove the parameters (though this may someday change). Superm401 - Talk 02:25, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Apology
Even though I felt that you were somewhat rude when you addressed my half-hearted merge of Stop 'N' Swop, I apologize for any rudeness, insulting statements, sarcasm, and my half-hearted merge of Stop 'N' Swop and many other redirects (which, in the past couple of days, I have gone through my contributions and made specific sectional redirects, fixed links/redirects, and tagged images as orphans or gave them a home). I have since began doing redirects properly. - A Link to the Past (talk) 21:02, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
- Of course I was rude. That's just how I roll. --- RockMFR 23:09, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Image problem
Well, I'm working on it and have found a few that I messed up on. I'll finish up tomorrow.
Also, does a bot automatically alert the uploader that it is tagged as having no source? I ask because a bot told me about an image I uploaded, which lacked a source. Or does someone just submit it to the bot? - A Link to the Past (talk) 05:33, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
- I know that User:OrphanBot does some stuff (mostly removing images from articles), but I don't know about notifying the uploaders. --- RockMFR 05:37, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Question
Why did you add the useless comment to my talk page? Please don't do this, as it wasted my time. Thanks. Can i have some fishy crackers? 04:33, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
- You've uploaded a fair use image that is not currently being used on any page. The comment on your talk page should explain this further. --- RockMFR 19:01, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
- To elaborate, by the time Sora got the orphan notification, the image had already been re-added. Thus, you just confused him. :) –Gunslinger47 23:03, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Grrr me again sorry to bother
So I finally listened to Image:En-Wiki.ogg on a system that had some base I only had checked before with headphones, anyways its a pretty base boomy, so I have another version thats been fixed more or less. Should I upload this as En-Wiki1.ogg and then have you switch it over or is there a way to overwrite the file? SpeakThings:Mellerbeck 02:29, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
I got a Upload warning A file with this name exists already, and cannot be overwritten. Please go back and upload this file under a new name. Image:En-Wiki.ogg, Could you possibly nuke this file for me? I figure then I can overwrite it. SpeakThings:Mellerbeck 02:57, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Template:An
Hi, I notice that you redirected the template {{an}} to the template {{fact}} with the edit summary "this is exactly the same as Template:Fact". I must ask, why did the fact that the template was created with the edit summary "created new template to parallel Template:Fact" not give you an indication that this was meant to parallel Template:Fact and not to be "exactly the same", which it is not? It's bad enough that the page which the template pointed to was deleted by someone who didn't even check to see what pointed to the page before pulling the trigger, but this is just icing on the cake: deleting a template without a TfD discussion, and apparently without any attempt to find out what the template is for.
The reason I created a separate template was because I felt that many editors had a specific misunderstanding about citing opinions or viewpoints, as opposed to citing tangible facts, the kind for which the existing {{fact}} template is more often used. The idea was to point to a page which would explain that opinions can be encyclopedic -- as long as they are attributed, and the source they are attributed to is either a reliable source or someone whose relation to the subject makes their views upon it notable. Would it have worked better if I had been able to flesh out the requisite page faster? Probably! (Though who knows, maybe someone would have seen it, noticed that it looked like Template:Fact because it had been deliberately structured to be the equivalent of Template:Fact only for matters of opinion rather than matters of fact, and deleted it without looking at, or bothering to ask, how the templates differed...) But, y'know, I'm carrying the workload of two people at my job and Wikipedia doesn't pay me for editing, in fact it more often slaps me across the face by wasting the effort I give to it, so screw it. -- Antaeus Feldspar 02:11, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
- I just don't see the need for it. The {{fact}} template is always used for this sort of stuff — it isn't just for "facts". It should be used for ANY unsourced information. --- RockMFR 02:14, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] H:Page name variables
I'm not sure if it is needed or not; the Meta version of Help:Variable includes the table, not just Help:Magic words, so I imagine it is standalone to be able to be transcluded to both. However, that is just my guess. Titoxd(?!? - cool stuff) 04:24, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi. I am not sure if it was you, but when relisting an AfD, the original entry on the first Daily page needs to be deleted, not commented out. Thanks! -- Avi 03:49, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Your protection request
I have protected Template:Please leave this line alone (template sandbox heading) per your request. I was going to say that I thought it showed remarkable restraint in terms of avoiding COI not to protect it yourself. Then I had this daft idea and checked Special:listuser and realised to my complete surprise that you aren't an admin. And I think I would have laid money to the contrary. Anyway, you are in my view eminently suitable for the tools with experience in all the right places (And I see no skeletons in the closet- though you never know :-) ). So the big question- can I tempt you into being the first person I nominate for the mop? I quite understand if you've already sitting on a better offer. But one way or another we need to get you the tools.... WjBscribe 04:16, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] You RfA
Hey RockMFR, As a few people know I determine my outcome of a vote in a RfA with my Admin Assessment Scale right now i'd like to know:
- How many article's you've written that have become a FA?
- How many wiki-projects you are in?
- How often do you vandal-fight on a weekly basis?
- Do you have any Barnstars?
- Do you have E-mail enabled?
- What's the best article you've written?
And any other statement you would like to say. Cheers - Lego@lost Rocks Collide! 07:33, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
- Would you like me to respond here or at the RFA? I'll just put it here for now...
- I've worked a lot on GameFAQs. I've done minor work on about a half dozen other FA's while they were FAC's.
- I'm not a "member" of any — I'm not really a big fan of putting my name on lists and stuff. But I participate in WP:VG quite a bit.
- I randomly check recent changes, new pages, and random article. I don't know how many rvv's I do per week, but I'd imagine it's probably about 10/day.
- I've got a few barnstars in my first talk archive [3].
- E-mail is enabled.
- I haven't really fully written any articles, but I'm proud of the work I did on GameFAQs to get it up to featured status. --- RockMFR 07:42, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] My RfA
- Thanks for the support position. However, I've decided to withdraw my acceptance because of real WP:CIVIL concerns. I will try again later when I've proven to myself and others that my anger will no longer interfere with my abilities as a Wikipedia editor. Thanks again, and I'll see you around here shortly. :) JuJube 04:17, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] English name proposal
I do believe you're confused. I'm not proposing using fan translations. I'm suggesting that we use official English titles. I'm not amending any new guideline to Naming conventions, I'm only adding that games fall under the same rule that films and literature fall under. - A Link to the Past (talk) 23:10, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
- Believe me, I'm not confused. I understand your suggestion, but as far as I can see, the motivating factor is the Seiken Densetsu page. I disagree with two points of your suggestion:
- In some rare cases, official English version names are not as well-known as romanizations of foreign names. I realize that we're just talking about a guideline, but I'm of the opinion that guidelines should have as few, if any, exceptions as possible.
- Mana is not proven to be an official name. I agree that the "Mana" usage is becoming more common and that this might be intended to be the official English name, but I'm still not satisfied with the evidence that has been produced. There are far more instances of "Seiken Densetsu" being used as the official title. --- RockMFR 23:20, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
-
- That argument is not an argument to apply the guideline to movies, but not games. Are you saying that if you didn't believe I was using this as a tool to get Seiken Densetsu changed to Mana, you would not oppose it? If so, I do believe that your opposition doesn't hold merit.
- Also, I LINKED to an article where Square Enix referred to Dawn of Mana as a "Mana game". - A Link to the Past (talk) 23:37, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
- Anyway, if you are insisting on debating Mana vs. SD, please remove your vote. The vote is NOT on SD vs. Mana. It is only on if the guideline applies to games as well as movies. If you are not prepared to explain why it does not apply, please do not participate. - A Link to the Past (talk) 00:16, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:Why was my page deleted?
Thanks for copying my suggested addition to Wikipedia:Why was my page deleted?#If all else fails, try another wiki. I suppose I could have just been bold, but given that it's sort of like a policy page, I wanted to get at least one other opinion first. On viewing it again, I saw a few items to touch up (more links, some examples of wikis formed in response to Wikipedia deletions). Hopefully the advice will help someone. Wikipedia allegedly gets about 4,000 new articles and deletes 2,000 articles per day. Which means Wikipedia's rejects would be enough to build one of the world's largest wikis, not that it would necessarily be all that great. Seriously, it kind of bugs me to see articles just deleted without much attempt by experienced editors to place the articles elsewhere. Many if not most of the deleted articles were created by new users who haven't learned all the complicated rules yet, and most of them probably don't know where else to go. Simply deleting their articles without suggesting alternate outlets seems to violate the spirit of WP:NOOB, and it probably makes some deletion debates unnecessarily heated. Moving someone's work is potentially much less threatening than destroying it. I think I'll go to Wikipedia talk:Please do not bite the newcomers and suggest an addition to that page. --Teratornis 00:03, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
