Rollercoaster is a summer 1977 disaster-suspense film directed by James Goldstone. It was one of three films created in Sensurround by Universal Studios, along with Midway and Earthquake .
The plot surrounds the blackmail of various amusement park companies by an anonymous domestic terrorist (Timothy Bottoms) who places radio-controlled explosives on each park's signature roller coaster. (The film opens with a horrific explosion and crash of a sabotaged ride packed with people.) A ride safety inspector (George Segal) works with the local police and an FBI special agent (Richard Widmark) to track down the terrorist. Helen Hunt also has a supporting role as Segal's teenage daughter / potential victim.
