Ronald Barry Evans AM (July 7, 1939 – March 9, 2007) was an Australian rules footballer, Chairman of the Australian Football League (AFL) as well as the Essendon Football Club. He held the position with the AFL between 1998 and 2007. [1]

[edit] Football career
Evans was educated at Caulfield Grammar School in Melbourne, and played 64 games for Essendon from 1958 to 1962. Evans was 188cm tall and booted 210 goals for the Bombers, mostly playing at full-forward - he won the Coleman Medal for the VFL's leading goalkicker in 1959 and 1960. Evans also represented Victoria in State of Origin and later moved to Western Australia to play for the West Perth Football Club where he was twice leading goalkicker.

Evans continued his connection to football in the business world, becoming the president of the Essendon Football Club in 1988. Evans obtained a BSc and MBA.
He became a successful businessman in other areas, working as an executive for Spotless, and later as the company's managing director from 1992 to 2004.
Since 1998, he has been the chairman of the Australian Football League, the governing body of the elite competition in the sport of Australian rules football. On 12 June 2006, in the Queen's Birthday Honours List, he was made a Member (AM) of the Order of Australia for service to business and Australian rules football.
In 2006, it was announced that Evans was to have an abdominal tumor removed. He retired owing to his health as a result. [1]
He died of abdominal cancer on March 9, 2007.
