Ron Flowers

Ronald "Ron" Flowers (born July 28, 1934) is a former professional football (soccer) player.
Born in Edlington near Doncaster, England, Flowers played with Wolverhampton Wanderers from 1952 to 1967. He was originally playing in the Doncaster rovers academy, Where his father played semi-professionally, Before he was spotted by the Wolves' Nursery side: Wath Wanderers. From then on his career really started.
Playing as an attacking midfield player (using today's terminology) Flowers won 49 caps for England and scored 10 goals. Although his last cap came before the finals, he was a member of the England squad that won the World Cup in 1966. During his time as captain of Wolverhampton Wanderers, After a European cup, Barcelona offered Wolves an open cheque for flowers. Not surprisingly it was turned down by the Wolves Board. The Manager of the Barcelona side said afterwards "There will always be a space for ronald flowers on my team."
Flowers also played for Northampton Town and finally Wellington Town (latterly known as Telford United) as player-manager before retiring to run a sports shop in Wolverhampton. His sports shop company is still successfully running In the town centre.
