Rosebery Primary School
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Rosebery Primary School was a primary school in Loughborough, Leicestershire, England. It was opened in 1897 and closed by Leicestershire Local Authority in 2006, despite a protracted battle between the local community and the local government.[1] The school and its pupils and staff (known affectionately as Rosebuds) are remembered in the website SaveRosebery.co.uk, which was for a time used as the website for the campaign to save the school.
On 28th March 2007 an item on the local council's website charnwood.gov.uk broke the news that the school building was now grade 2 listed, which protects it from demolition and insensitive development. An explanatory email from English Heritage to one of the campaigners read as follows... "The entire building is listed, both the exterior and the interior. Also the entrance gates and railings. This means that permission is required from Charnwood council to remove or demolish anything fixed to the building, or alter it."
