Ross Park Mall

Ross Park Mall is a two-level "super-regional" complex located 9 miles north of downtown Pittsburgh in Ross Township on McKnight Road and I-279. The complex opened in 1986 and offers more than 1.2 million square feet of retail space. It attracts more than 10 million shoppers annually and sales per square foot are in excess of $400.

[edit] Anchor stores
Anchor tenants include Sears serving as the center's west entrance, JC Penney as its north, and Macy's having the eastern end of the mall. Macy's Midwest closed its original store on March 31, 2006, and moved to the larger Kaufmann's site on Sept. 9, 2006, due to Federated's conversion of most Kaufmann's stores to Macy's. Nordstrom announced in March of 2006 that they will open a new store in the old Macy's site. The Macy's was a former Lazarus location, and converted in 2004. From 1987 to August 1994, the Macy's operated as Horne's, only to change names when Federated purchased the Pittsburgh-based departement store chain and converted its stores to the Lazarus nameplate. The Horne's space was supposed to be a Gimbel's, but the chain went bankrupt around the same time the mall opened. Kaufmann's moved in from a location about a mile north on McKnight Road that is today a Giant Eagle. Horne's was the former anchor of nearby Northway Mall until it moved in, and the two locations coexisted for about a year.

[edit] Mall expansion
Ross Park Mall has over 150 stores, and an expansion of the mall, which includes a 65,000 square foot lifestyle addition and a new Nordstrom department store will increase the square footage of the mall to over 1.3 million square feet. In addition, the area where Media Play had closed (this space was originally a Service Merchandise) and DSW Shoe Warehouse above the former Media Play, will become Dick's Sporting Goods when they vacate out of Northway Mall in 2007. The lifestyle expansion will add about four or five new stores, including one eatery, and all stores will be accessible from the outside.

Ross Park features some of Pittsburgh's northern suburbs' most exclusive stores including Banana Republic, Express, Gap, Hollister, American Eagle Outfitters, J.Crew, Abercrombie & Fitch and Men's Wearhouse. For women, the mall has such high-end retailers as bebe, New York & Company, Charlotte Russe, Frederick's of Hollywood, Ann Taylor Loft, Wet Seal and Victoria's Secret.

Everything from Build-a-Bear to GNC and EB Games. The most exclusive stores at the mall include Williams-Sonoma, Coach, Sephora, Aveda, Swarovski, Aldo (shoes), Godiva, LoveSac and Talbots. Kay Bee Toys, Spencer Gifts, LensCrafters,Victoria's Secret, and Waldenbooks have long been popular tenants in the mall.

Ross Park Mall has a space for nearly every footwear vendor, from Foot Locker and Finish Line to Rack Room Shoes and Payless.
A store of local interest is Pro Image, formerly Pirates Clubhouse, which specializes in Pittsburgh Pirates, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Pittsburgh Penguins apparel.
Ross Park Mall also has a full-service Citizen's Bank on the first floor.
The food court was anchored by Wendy's until 2006. Current tenants include Chick-Fil-A, Dairy Queen, Orange Julius, Subway, and Steak Escape. Au Bon Pain, formerly Warburton's, was a key tenant for years. The newsstand, Ross Park News, has moved to 321 Forbes Ave. in Pittsburgh and is now called Forbes Downtown Store: an oriental grocery specializing in Filipino foods.

- From 1986 to 1991, the Sears had a McDonald's inside of it, located on the first floor near the lawn mowers.
- The buttons handed out on opening day read "A style is born"
- The mall was renovated in 1998. Prior to the renovations, the styling featured large sculptures of men riding unicycles throughout the mall.
- Macy's (former Kaufmann's) is the only three-floor store in the building.
- Several months prior to opening, with the mall still under construction, an open house was held that allowed the public to tour the incomplete mall, at the end of the tour Pittsburgh Steelers Quarterback Mark Malone signed autographs for visitors.
