Ryan Guno Babel (born December 19, 1986 in Amsterdam) is a Dutch footballer, usually playing at the striker or left winger positions despite being predominately right footed.
Ryan Babel made his debut on 1 February 2004 in Ajax's 4-0 home win over ADO Den Haag. He made his international debut on 26 March 2005, away against Romania as a substitute for Arjen Robben. The Netherlands won the game 2-0 with Babel scoring the second goal, making him the fourth youngest goal scorer for the Dutch national team and the youngest, post-World War II.
He is considered to be one of the greatest talents of the Netherlands. Marco van Basten said about him: "He has all the potential to become the next Thierry Henry". He has been reportedly been linked with Arsenal [1] and Newcastle United [2] but Glenn Roeder called this speculation simply no more than "pie-in-the-sky." Fans at Ajax have nick named him 'Uncle' Babel, or 'The Uncle'.

Babel played 12 career games for the Dutch national team, scoring four times, and was a member of the team that played the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
[edit] Transfer Speculation
When the 2007 January transfer window opened, Babel was linked with moves to Arsenal and Newcastle United. On 29th January, it was reported Newcastle would offer £5m plus flop striker Albert Luque for the speedy striker. However, Glenn Roeder has denied this and now looks like Albert Luque could be on his way to another Dutch team, PSV Eindhoven.
