[edit] Comments on Samuel Jones
Hi, S.dedalus. I've read over you draft in more detail and made some minor changes, specifically:
- Some typos
- Making a few better value wikilinks (eg, disambiguate dean to dean)
- Wikify birthdate per WP:MOSDATE
- Format external link per Manual of Style.
I have a few other suggestions.
- Firstly, you should consider de-linking all dates that only state a year. These are considered low value links and are discouraged per WP:MOSDATE. Day, month and year dates are linked, but this is only because in doing so they can be automatically reformated to suit individual user's preferences. Occasionally years should be linked, but this is only if there is real value in linking to the year (and this is rarely the case for anything after the 19th century).
- You might wish to include some criticism or praise of his work, if it can be reliably sourced.
However, once the dates are fixed, it is perfectly acceptable as an article and can be uploaded when you are ready. Here is how to do it:
- Firstly you need to move Samuel Jones (composer) to Samuel Jones (jazz musician) by clicking on the move tab at the top of the Samuel Jones (composer) article page. Type the new page name in the space provided and explain that you are moving to a better descriptor to accommodate another composer in the reason box.
- Next you need to go back to Samuel Jones (composer) (which should now be a redirect page to the new article) and click on the what links here (in the toolbox on the left of the page). You will see, among others, the following namespace pages listed: Somethin' Else, Sam Jones and Portal:Music/DateOfBirth/November 12. You need to go to each of these articles and change the link from Samuel Jones (composer) to Samuel Jones (jazz musician)
- Now you have to replace the redirect command at Samuel Jones (composer) with the text of your draft. Its easiest just to cut and paste this, as the history is not really relevent while it is a draft.
- Now go back to Sam Jones and make sure both articles you have moved are listed, correctly linked and described.
- Now insert the following text (with indent and italics) right at the top of both articles:
-
- :For other musicians with the name see Sam Jones.
- Finally make sure your new article is not an orphan (i.e. there are links to it in other articles) and that is is suitably catagorised.
Then you are done! Of course, I could do all this for you, but the best way to learn about moves etc is simply to do it yourself. If you get stuck or have any problems, drop me a line. If you manage it by yourself, i'll check everything through later to make sure there are no fatal errors that could crash Wikipedia! ;) Rockpocket 07:07, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
