[edit] "United 93" Portrayal

I'm freakishly newbish and don't trust myself to edit anything properly, but I think someone should mention that Saeed al-Ghamdi was portrayed as a character in the film "United 93." And quite well too, though that's hardly encyclopedic data. ^_^

It’s a debateable point, do we list every time there’s a movie about Hitler (technically we have a separate article "Hitler in Popular Culture" or something, iirc), or when George Washington appears? I think our best bet would be to create a Films about the 9/11 Hijackers article, if you didn’t want to just keep everything to United 93 or The Hamburg Cell, etc.
That said, I went to United 93 with high hopes, but while I found it great that the movie ‘’did’’ focus on the control room situations, NORAD, etc, I found their portrayal of the hijackers disheartening, though that wasn’t specifically ire about Saeed’s portrayal. Though it should be pointed out, that since [the cockpit recorder was released to the public], it seems that Saeed had been the one flying the plane and not Ziad as previously thought. [edit] Facts to better incorporate

  • According to Newsweek, Military records show that the three used as their address 10 Radford Boulevard, a base roadway on which residences for foreign-military flight trainees are located. In March 1997, Saeed Alghamdi listed the address to register a 1998 Oldsmobile; five months later he used it again to register a second vehicle, a late model Buick. 1997?!? That can't be right... [edit] I-94 form

Does anyone know the origin of the image of the I-94 form? Can I find it on an official or well known media site?Lenbrazil 01:06, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

I'll look it up as soon as I get regular net access restored, it's on my home computer in my Wiki folder, so I'd say it's "likely" that it was among the exhibits presented by the 9/11 Commission. But I'll doublecheck when I get a chance Sherurcij (talk) (Terrorist Wikiproject) 14:26, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image

I think in the debate of which should be the "main" image, we should probably go with the one released by the FBI memorandum and Public Announcement, and released to media centres following the September 11th attacks. A later image that surfaced, and was used as evidence in the trial against Zacarias Moussaoui, is still valid and important to include, but should not be the "main image". In addition, the photograph is 'marred' by an evidence sticker, any chance someone could find the image sans sticker, or could photoshop it off, so we have just the image? Sherurcij (Speaker for the Dead) 15:23, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

I question your need to photoshop the historical record. Did you photoshop the other images you uploaded to this article? Do you routinely photoshop history? The evidence tag is part of the historical record.
Why are you pushing the POV of having a youths picture for the biography of an adult? You have not said why his photo as a youth should be the reference standard other than it was the first available. My sense is your setting up this subject to redicule hence the POV, he was obviously a man when he committed the crime.--Paul E. Ester 16:52, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
Why do you believe that photograph is him as a youth? He could be just as old as in any other photograph. The "historical record" of what Saeed al-Ghamdi looked like does not include what evidence number he appeared as in an unrelated trial about Zacarias Moussaoui - the actual photograph does not include that sticker, the sticker was placed atop the photograph. It's not different than say, removing the picture frame from a copy of a photograph hanging in the Smithsonian, if the article is about the photo, not its place in the Smithsonian. There is no POV to push, and I'm not ridiculing anything, do you have any evidence otherwise? I'm suggesting we use the FBI-released photograph since there is no apparent reason not to other than the fact Paul Ester thinks he looks too youthful. [edit] Dead or not?

Is there a consensus here on whether this guy is dead or not? I can't find a retraction by the Telegraph of [this article], but I also don't see any other confirmation that that Saeed al-Ghamdi is A) actually alive and B) the same person as the person named as a hijacker. Either these are two different Saeed al-Ghamdi's, or somebody else was on the plane under al-Ghamdi's name, but I can't seem to find a sourced answer to which one it is. It's all very confusing...

  • It was a case of mistaken identity. [1][2]--Peephole 15:20, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
