The phrase "The setting is in the first of 1900, in Japan." is bad English. However not knowing the series, I am unable to correct it. Does it mean:
- It is set in Japan in the first half of 1900
- It is set in Japan starting in the first half of 1900
- It is set in Japan in the first half of the 20th century
- Something else...
