Samuel Burgess (born December 14, 1988) is an English rugby league player who is currently contracted to English club the Bradford Bulls in the Super League competition. He signed for the Bulls last year from Hunslet Parkside. His position of choice is as a loose forward. He shares his birthday with Michael Owen.
He attended Heckmondwike Grammar school between 2000 and 2005. He was nicknamed 'moon head' with reference to his large head and body. He is a huge impact player in the game.He Captained England Schoolboys last season and made great progress in the Junior Academy. Big things are tipped for this Loose Forward who is also a top golfer, winning the longest drive at the Bulls Golf day only a few weeks after he joined the club.
Burgess made his debut against Leeds Rhinos in the 2006 season. He won the long drive competition at the club in 2005. Burgess also has an interest in cricket, playing for Liversedge CC in west yorkshire, who are a reasonable junior cricket side, but are often boasted about. After a highly successful debut season with the Bulls, Sam was awarded the Senior Academy Player of the Year Award by the club.
