Sam Kolias is the CEO of Boardwalk REIT (TSX: BEI.UN).[1]
He and his brother Van Kolias, Senior VP of Quality control of Boardwalk, are at #81 of top 100 richest people in Canada as compiled by Canadian Business magazine for 2006.
They bought a large chunk of apartment real estate in Alberta and Saskatchewan. Through their public company, Boardwalk Equities Inc., they have also entered Eastern Canada. They got their start in 1984, using a $50,000 loan from their father. Today, Boardwalk has close to $1 billion in assets. The brothers share a 36% stake.[citation needed]
The Koliases are devout Christians and are involved with charities that help the homeless; once a week, Sam serves food at a soup kitchen in Calgary.[citation needed] Sam also keeps a toilet plunger under his desk, a reminder that success comes from "hands on" involvement in the business.[citation needed]
