Talk:San Marcos, California
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I'm mildly concerned about the neutrality of this article, especially when it comes to the segment regarding supposed activities in Richmar, Bradley Park and Twin Oaks. San Marcos is a gang injunction zone, and reported incidences of gang activity are lower than in surrounding areas. As for "drug trafficking" and "prostitution," I would ask where the editor obtained this information -- there is no citation. I think the addition of these elements is designed to make the city look worse than it is and raises questions about the credibility of the article as a whole.
[edit] Uncited Gang/Race references
I have removed what appears to be a paragraph based more in opinion and hearsay than any cited information, however if the information can be cited by all means return the paragraph to it’s original location.
Specifically: San Marcos is rapidly expanding as one of the most growth oriented cities in northern San Diego. The influx has largely consisted of younger, educated, White, upper middle-class people moving into a community that was previously dominated by older, White, retirees. Such influx has deteriorated the infrastrucute of older communities throughout the city. Among the affected neighbourhoods are the Bradley and Richmar communities whose housing projects are notorious for gang violence, drug trafficking and prostitution. Several industrial complexes are also victim of such tribulations. The balance of power and controll over the streets of San Marcos is constantly shifting between rival gangs affiliated with the Los Angeles and San Diego alliances. Many residents in such areas complain of gang activities among them vandalism and random acts of violence. San Marcos is one of several cities in northern San Diego County affected by gangs. Other affected cities include Escondido, Vista, Carlsbad and Oceanside.
