[edit] History
Named after its first principal, Scarborough was founded on a 21-acre plot on May 27, 1968. The school relieved Waltrip High School of many students. Originally, the school was for both Junior and Senior High, but it became just a high school in 1979 when Clifton Middle School opened.
[edit] Neighborhoods served
The neighborhoods served by Scarborough include Candlelight Oaks, Candlelight Oaks Village, Forest Pines, Forest West, and part of Oak Forest.
[edit] Student body
The enrolled student body, which totaled 888 during the 2004-2005 school year, is predominantly Hispanic.
- 60% Hispanic
- 21% African-American
- 17% White
- 2% Asian
- <1% Native American
[edit] Strict dress code and school uniforms
Beginning in the 2006-2007 school year, Scarborough has a strict dress code with school uniform trousers and skirts [1].
Uniforms had been previously established and then dismantled (there were no uniforms in the 2005-2006 school year [2]).
The Texas Education Agency specified that the parents and/or guardians of students zoned to a school with uniforms may apply for a waiver to opt out of the uniform policy so their children do not have to wear the uniform [3]; parents must specify "bona fide" reasons, such as religious reasons or philosophical objections.
[edit] Feeder pattern
Feeder elementary schools include all of Kate Smith and portions of Benbrook, and Wainwright.
Feeder middle schools include Clifton and portions of Black.
