Metro

Awesome work on the Metro articles. I was about to challenge the move of Potomac Ave to Potomac Avenue, because the pylon says Ave - but the signage outside of the pylon says Avenue. Anyway, great great work on these :) A nice complement to my work, which was to start the articles and build the little navigation box at the bottom. Just one other question - while browsing your site, I saw references to different kinds of train; what are "Breda", "Rohr",etc. trains? --Golbez 17:00, Jun 2, 2005 (UTC)

On Metro

Metro has four different car types. The original cars, numbered 1000-1299, were manufactured in the 1970's by Rohr Industries of California. The 2000, 3000, and 4000-series cars, numbered 2000-2075, 3000-3291, and 4000-4099, were delivered in 1982, 1987, and 1991 respectively by Breda Costruzioni Ferroviarie S.p.A. of Italy. The newest cars, numbered 5000-5191, were manufactured by CAF of Spain, and were delivered beginning in 2001. Additionally, the 2000 and 3000 series cars built by Breda are undergoing a rehabilitation by Alstom in Hornell, New York. That replaces most of the cars' components, extending the life of those cars by another 20 years or so.

As for Potomac Ave/Avenue, the map shows "Ave" as do the pylons, but the wall signs as well as the lettering over the station's entrance show it as "Avenue".

I'm also going to do up the remainder of the pages I've not yet added links and photos to.

Schuminweb 17:46, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Interesting; how can you tell one train from another just by looking at it? What are the distinguishing characteristics? Also, please respond on my talk page so that I get a note when you've replied :) --Golbez 18:32, Jun 2, 2005 (UTC)

More on Metro

I'm ready to nominate Washington Metro for featured article status, but first, I wanted to ask if you could clarify some of your (I think) additions to Signalling and Operation? In particular, could you explain what "At switches entering into pocket tracks in a direction reverse to the normal operating dirction, there is a "P Signal", which in its lit state allows the operator to manually set the switch and enter the pocket track." means? What's a pocket track? And furthermore, could you verify my addition about the frequency of two-, four-, six-, and eight-car trains? Thanks :) --Golbez July 5, 2005 23:59 (UTC)

Oh, heh, okay. I hope you aren't offended that I assumed you were the one who added nice technical information. ;) --Golbez July 6, 2005 02:11 (UTC)

Huh, I saw your edit to Anacostia (I have all the metro articles on my watchlist) and I saw the picture - I don't think I've ever been to the lower Green Line, or if I did it was a long time ago. What's with the station roof there? It's much different from all the others. --Golbez 22:24, July 18, 2005 (UTC)

Thanks :) Didn't realize that Farragut North wasn't the most shallow station in the system. (PS, the Chinese restaurant in that little food court by Farragut North has some of the best Chinese food I've had anywhere. ;) Is there a list somewhere, either on your site or the "technical" sites we have linked, about what stations use what type of vaults? --Golbez 02:13, July 19, 2005 (UTC)

Congrats on Metro additions

Schuminweb, great job you've done in adding all that you have to the Washington Metro article. Your images of the cars and stations are fantastic. Keep up the good work! -Uris 8 July 2005 01:36 (UTC)

What do you think about 207.237.85.184?

I don't know what to think about 207.237.85.184 removing that relevant bit of information about the founders in the A.N.S.W.E.R. article. I know that you and I both have fixed the information back several times, and they don't seem to want to use the discussion page as suggested. I'm curious to know what you think about 207.237.85.184. Please do let me know... Schuminweb 11:25, 7 September 2005 (UTC)

I'm guessing that he is involved in ANSWER & trying to whitewash the IAC/WWP connection, which I consider a relevant part of ANSWER's story. I stand about the same place as Michael Albert on ANSWER: I'm impressed with their organizing ability, and willing to work in loose coalition with them, but very wary of them as a vehicle by which some politics that I find pretty abhorrent can find their way into the peace movement. It's not like when Larouchies or neo-Nazis show up at peace events -- I think ANSWER are sincere about wanting peace, and I think that many of their views intersect those of the rest of the peace movement -- but I think their attitude of "blame only America" is antithetical to a true peace movement, and I think it is important to understand where that comes from. Obviously, I'm doing my best to keep my value judgement out of the article, but the facts on which it is based are another matter. -- Jmabel | Talk 16:52, September 7, 2005 (UTC)

Metro photos

Ben, I dont know what your problem with my photo is, but for you to CONTINUALLY remove it is against the concept of wikipedia. These articles are not places for your photographs only, other users are allowed to contribute as well. I am greatly distressed at your continued removal of MY additions to metro related articles. Please remember that wikipedia is a COLLABORATIVE project, not a "my photo is better than your photo" project. If you continue to remove my photographs I will have no other option but to seek mediation and arbitration.  ALKIVAR 04:00, 6 October 2005 (UTC)

WikiProject Anti-war COTM

Its good to see that the anti-war pages are slowly improving. I don't know what you think, but it seems like the WikiProject Anti-war was wellworth setting up. One thing that hasn't really taken off is the Collaboration of the month. Still, even though no one is really following it yet I think we should move on to another page (Protests against the invasion of Iraq has been the acticle for over a mnth now) hopefully eventually more people will start following it. Since I picked the last one I was wondering if you had any suggestions for the next? + do you think we should have a COTM tag for the talk page along the lines of ones like template:MCOTWcur?--JK the unwise 10:21, 14 October 2005 (UTC)

Washington Metro Project

I'd be happy to help, but I probably can't contribute much because I very rarely use the Metro. Many years ago I used it daily, but that's stale news! AnonUser 03:22, 16 October 2005 (UTC)

Metro infoboxes

I haven't been able to help yet, but I have a comment on the infoboxes - they have too much info, I think. In particular, the "next station/preceeding station" bit. That's a duplicate of what's below, and in some cases (like Crystal City) it's so wide that it's crowding out the rest of the article. Als I'm not sure if the external links are a good addition to it, I can think of few infoboxes which contain map links. Just some helpful criticisms. I really think at the very least next/previous should be removed from the infobox. --Golbez 13:48, 17 October 2005 (UTC)

Washington streetcars

Hi! I see you've taken an interest in the article I've been doing on the old streetcars of DC. Your input and advice is greatly appreciated. The article is very much a work in progress. I've got tons more material that I could add, but as of yet, I haven't developed a grand design for the article. Do you have any suggestions? There is more detail I can add about specific streetcar lines as well as what companies ran them. I haven't even begun to add any information on the interurbans (I still have some more research to do in that area anyway.) Do you think interurbans should be in a separate article? I haven't yet found a map covering the total system that isn't copyrighted. It might be best to just draw one myself, but it would have to be on a blank street map of DC and the area. Do you know where I might find one of those? You seem to have developed some good maps of Metro. Do you think it was appropriate to put the proposed Anacostia line in the article? And do you have any info on how likely it is to be built? As I said, any input it appreciated. I fear that very few people are knowledgable on this subject, but I have some good reference material. SDC 20:16, 17 October 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for your input. Keep your eyes open for maps on which we might be able to draw streetcar lines. If you have one of the original L'Enfant plans, that would be good, because the original streetcar lines were first mapped out on that diagram. I'll be adding to the article as I go through all the reference material I have on the subject. It will probably take a while before the article is done. Feel free to edit and give me feedback.

Thanks for all your good work on the Metro articles. And it's a good map you have drawn. But I have a question about it: Is the Tenleytown station in the right place? Shouldn't it be aligned with the other Wisconsin Avenue stations? I also have a question about the Dupont Circle station article. I see you changed the reference about the tunnel from "Connecticut Avenue" to "former streetcar". Don't you think calling it the Connecticut Avenue tunnel is more appropriate? That's what most people know it as. I drove through it thousands of times before I knew that it used to be a tunnel for streetcars. The only difference between the old and current tunnel is that it was widened so four lanes of traffic could fit through. Before, it was built just wide enough for two train tracks. And also, is that the reason that the Metro station is so deep? The tunnel is immediately below the surfce, but the Metro station seems much deeper than that. I just always assumed there was another reason, especially, since other stations on the Red Line are so deep.

Also, do any maps of the system that are geographically accurate exist? I always like seeing where subway lines really are, but maps like this on any subway system seem rare. SDC 21:07, 19 October 2005 (UTC)

September 24th protest pictures

I have my pick of the pictures from the counterprotest up on the talk page of the article for review, if you want a look. Wikipedia:WikiProject Washington Metro

I could try to take some pictures as I live in the DC area, mostly for the Orange line. Would a picture for all stops be good, like including the signs instead of the trains leaving? I might not have the time but i could probably get some pictures if I ever go to a Washington Redskins game. Jobe6 Image:Peru flag large.png 01:49, 20 October 2005 (UTC)

Well if you need any help just tell me. Jobe6 Image:Peru flag large.png 02:46, 21 October 2005 (UTC)
I was thinking maybe some color but that would be problematic with a station on more than one line. Jobe6 Image:Peru flag large.png 02:49, 21 October 2005 (UTC)

Ripped-up sign

Re: The ripped up sign in my J20 photo set, you're right - it is a remnant from the scuffle. At the time of writing for that photo set, I had not yet learned of that incident (I would learn of it a few weeks later). It seems an update is in order...

BTW, I put up my J20 photo set as quickly as possible after the event in order to make up for having a two-month turnaround on my Million Worker March photo set. As a result, a few things didn't make it by the time I released it, and the scuffle was one of them. Another thing I didn't learn of before the photo set was released was the photo of me on carolmoore.net. [1] I was just tickled to find that.

Again, thanks for pointing that out. As I mentioned, an update is definitely in order.

Also, to satisfy my own curiosity, were you in DC on J20 as well? SchuminWeb (Talk) 08:23, 20 October 2005 (UTC)

No, I wasn't in DC that day. I'm from much further west; it's very far out of my way.
To clarify, I'm not angry; after writing what I did, I realized it might come off like that. I was just pointing out; more amused to see a depiction of that particular story from another perspective than anything. Rogue 9 14:27, 20 October 2005 (UTC)

Feb15

The February 15, 2003 global anti-war protest page is starting to swell. I have done a lot of work searching for more info' mainly by trawing the net. I'm not sure the formating it right. It looks odd at mo' as most of the sections currently only contain small amounts of info' (generally the location and size of demo) hopefully eventually they will all grow to the size/detail of the London section, (we will probally need to split the article up then).

Anyway thats not what I wanted to talk about. Rather the page is rather lacking in pictures, I was wondering if you had any of the day? I am presuming u were on one of the demo's in the USA.--JK the unwise 16:47, 24 October 2005 (UTC)

As per your reply on my talk page; Fair enough, I only got involved in radical politics in 2000 when I started Uni. Feb15 was amazing as a global thing but my actual experiance in London was a nightmare. I was stuarding one of the couchs from Sheffield University (we managed to put on 12 in total just from the Uni!) and we never made it anywere near the rally in Hyde park. I had to spend ages trying to ring other students from my couchs who had got lost etc. and the mobile networks kept going down because of the high volume of calls from that area I suppose. And it was cold. Most amazing thing was these waves of chants that would come traveling down the march (mexican stlye), you could hear the roar coming for ages until it finnal got to you.--JK the unwise 09:38, 26 October 2005 (UTC)

Protest Image

Will you protest if I replace the Mother Fucker image on the protest page? This image denigrates protest as social action by alienating those who view such language as inappropriate.

I don't think you have to agree with me on this point to agree to allow me to change the image. May I?

LegCircus 19:26, 27 October 2005 (UTC)

Okay, but really it shouldn't. Kids with mohawks giving the finger to cops can also be found at protests, but they don't characterize what protest is. I have been to over 100 protest type events and I must say I have never seen the word "mother fucker" on a sign.

Why do you want the image posted under protest? What does it contribute?

LegCircus 04:44, 28 October 2005 (UTC)

Snake handling edit revert

I, Anderskin but who is too lazy to bother to log in most of the time, did a revert of sorts on one of your edits on Snake handling (as featured on The Simpsons!), namely leaving the list of churches as a parts of a single "==" section. While your comment is true -- future additions to the chuches' list will be facilitated by your organisation -- it comes at too high a cost.

Firstly, there aren't that many snake handlers out there. Something about natural selection or Moe Sizlak's bad luck. 8^) Most state entries have only one or two entries. Secondly, these entries are only going to be in six or eight states anyway, unless somebody secretly comes up with a venom-less snake to beat the "firstly" problem. Thirdly, as official "====" sections, they appear in the contents which dramatically lengthens without merit the section as it appears in the ToC.

Sound good to you? I'm not trying to start a revert war, but it seemed better the way I left it. I rarely contribute any more, so if you or the consensus thought is to restore your edits, feel free. Just don't want to annoy you.

Wikipedia Anti-war project, push to get a featured article b4 Xmass

February 15, 2003 anti-war protest an article which is part of the WikiProject Anti-war of which you are listed as a member, has been recently rated A-class by the Version 1.0 Editorial team (see here) This means that it is considered to be of good quality. The Anti-war project has yet to achieve a featured article but with a little pushing I feel we could get this article up to FA standards. To this end I have put the article up for peer review, if you could help the final push to make this a brilliant article that would be much appreciated. Please give your comments at Wikipedia:Peer review/February 15, 2003 anti-war protest or on the articles talk page. Fingers crossed for a FA before Xmass.--JK the unwise 13:01, 30 November 2005 (UTC)

The Metro Logo

Hello, there, old friend, how are you.

This is Branden-Patrice, but I recently changed my name!! Can you believe it?

Anyway, I took the Metro Logo out of the page, but I still think it is a good idea to place one. Also, I think that the article should have a box similar to the NYC Subway article.

I am so sorry for any inconvience I may have casued you, for I am new to this and I thought I would be mostly a browser, but I have found an article to contribute to.

Respectfully Yours, Kelly Brown (aka Branden-Patrice Brown)lioki 03:23, 15 January 2006 (UTC)

Response to JMU Vandalism

Dear Mr. Schuminweb, I do not believe that my last entry can be considered vandalism. As I'm sure you did not notice, it was placed under the heading "Unconfirmed Information"; furthermore, it was correctly cited a source officially related to James Madison University, a fact which you can not claim for yourself. I believe that you should restore my entry given these facts about it. While I understand your avid use of the Wikipedia, the policy of the website is clearly that it should not be censored. Likewise, claiming to represent the views of encyclopedic information of a school you no longer attend and have not attended in 3 years is very dangerous. For the sake of decency, we, the students of James Madison University, kindly ask you to reduce your wikipedia ego and edit only those additions that are truly degrading the James Madison University. We understand that wikipedia is very important part of your person and while it will be difficult for you to downgrade your involvement with the James Madison University entry, the Dukes internet community will greatly appreciate your compliance. Sincerely Yours, H William Warner - Current Student at James Madison University

My response is on User talk:Warnerhw. SchuminWeb (Talk) 23:34, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

Dear Mr. Schuminweb, We understand that recent barages on your wikipedia prowess may have undermined your previous authority. However, this does not serve for you to seek out and destroy entries based on bias toward an opposing user. I think that your behavior is completely unprofessional. There are many people, current students and past alumni, that can attest to the importance of the Adventure House. While I understand that you are not a member of the outdoor culture, that does not mean that the Adventure House entry is non-encyclopedic. I fail to see one point that makes this appropriate for deletion. I assumed that vengeful behavior, obviously exhibited by you tracking down my entries through my user name, was not a part of the wikipedia experience. I apologize for incorrectly assuming the intellectual atmosphere of this site as I have experienced the sophomoric behavior of some individuals. I hope your all the best in sabotaging other peoples entries for personal gain but I will not be part of such a slanderous system. Sincerely - Concerned Student and Citizen - H William Warner

Personal Information

Schuminweb,

I posted personal information concerning myself and someone else on your talk page which has been decided would not be in the best interested of both of our parties. I have a right to remove this personal information since I do not wish it to be public domain. Do not repost it and if you revert your talk page please make sure that it is not reposted. I will keep this page on my watchlist. If you continue to do this then I will seek an administrative response. Thank you, --Strothra 06:47, 21 March 2006 (UTC)

Thus why you need to be careful what you post on Wikipedia. As it is, even if you remove it from the page, it still exists in the page history and in your edit history (both of which are publicly accessible). Whatever you posted is staying on here. This isn't the article name space. This is my user space. SchuminWeb (Talk) 10:18, 21 March 2006 (UTC)
Yes, I acknowledge that I posted it and I am quite aware that it would still be available in the edit and page history but it is surely less public when not overtly displayed. None of the information is personally damaging but, nonetheless, is personally identifiable information which I would rather not have so easily accessible. All I am asking is that you delete that one response. --Strothra 21:51, 21 March 2006 (UTC)

As you can tell from the recent updates to his page, Dr. Hanifi clearly passes the Professor Test. Thank you for highlighting the deficiencies in the article but I'm sure you clearly understand his exemplary work in the field of history. That being said, voting for KEEP will be expected in the coming days. Thanks for keeping us on our toes here at the WIKIPEDIA! WE LOVE YOU! Yey Schumin and the web of knowledge she weaves! huzzah! —This unsigned comment was added by Warnerhw (talkcontribs) .

About Schuminweb

I have some serious questions for you. Do I upset you? Do you feel violated? Do you feel wikipedia is your child? Do you think you own everything you participate in? Do you have trouble sharing things with others? Do you find that you often disagree with people? Do you feel threatened by new members of an organization you have been a part of for a long time? Is revenge a goal in your life? Do you feel that if you can't have something, no one else should? Are you spiteful? Are you unsatisfied with the life path you have chosen? Do you regret anything about it and attempt to destroy those things you wish you could have?

Judging from your behavior on this wikipedia, I think that you would respond yes to all of these questions. You have singled me out and tracked down entries that I have made just for the sake of deleting them. Is it a coincidence you attempted to delete the entries of Shah Hanifi and the Adventure House, both of which were started by me?

These things are beyond your grasp as an individual and that upsets you. You are not part of the thriving outdoor community of the Shenandoah Valley and because of that, you feel that it is irrelevant. I do not live at the adventure, I just happen to know it's importance because of my active participation in the outdoors.

As for Shah Hanifi, it has been clearly demonstrated that he is above and beyond qualified for entry on the wikipedia. Furthermore, who are you to say that a person with a Ph.D. employed by JMU is a run of the mill professor? He has been in school longer than you have been alive. There are only 1,000 Ph.D. granted a year in History and until you have one, you are in no position to judge the credentials of a professor.

I expected much more from you Mr. Schumin. At first I understood your requests, I was being silly. But your behavior has become increasingly childish. After I wrote on your talk page, you proceeded to search my edit history and deleted the adventure house page. This shows that you care not about the adventure house entry but instead about spiting my individual contributions. I would not expect these activities from a college graduate, but here we are. I, as an undergraduate, have to explain to you appropriate ways of dealing with jealousy.

I am done with you, Mr. Schumin. You are a disgrace to wikipedia and I am shocked that a graduate of JMU, a school I think very highly and assumed produces high-caliber citizens, would act in such a manner. Just remember that while you may express authority on this fake world that is the internet, you're childish behavior is unacceptable in the real world. This may perhaps explain why you are currently unemployed, despite graduating from a top regional university. All I have to say is that if you would put as much effort into making constructive contributions to Wikipedia as you do in spreading nonsense on Wikipedia, you would make a really great Wikipedian. SchuminWeb (Talk) 05:23, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

The article was nominated for deletion, deleted, and then recreated by WarnerHW. It went through the proper process- Schuminweb didn't delete it because of ANYTHING about you- it was just that the article was poor by Wikipedia standards. 24.50.211.226 13:11, 25 March 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for tagging this image, one year after it was uploaded! I'm glad someone was able to provide a better ID on it. The march was a great experience. Incidentally I had come up from Philly for the march but I am now living in Queens. NTK 05:35, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

Cease Stalking Users on Wikipedia

I do not appreciate the stalking of my edits and comments in order to deliberately find evidence against me and to undermine creations which belong to myself and to other users. Such behavior is highly questionable, disturbing, and sophomoric. Cease stalking me on Wikipedia. As Monicasdude stated in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Shah Mahmoud Hanifi, there was no reason to put a deletion tag on the article for Shah Mahmoud Hanifi. If you had clicked on the link which was in the article to the JMU History Dept. you could have easily found the professor's brief biography and a list of his awards. The proper action would have been to attempt to improve the article or request others to do further work on the article before attempting to delete it. Instead, Schuminweb, you chose to pursue a previously existing grudge against me to delete my creations. That action is not worthy of Wikipedia. Please refer to Wiki-stalking for further information.

In the future, please attempt be welcoming and helpful to new users attempting to contribute, in good faith, to Wikipedia rather than attacking them when they may annoy you.

--Strothra 03:56, 26 March 2006 (UTC)

Funny that you cite that, considering you've been doing the same to me... SchuminWeb (Talk) 10:10, 26 March 2006 (UTC)
I have not been doing that. I have been contributing in good faith whereas your proposed deletion of the professor article was dubious at best. I propose that any hatchet that exists, should be buried without further ado. You've done good work on Wikipedia and I am attempting to contribute to the project as well so I propose that we not stand in one another's way. --Strothra 13:43, 26 March 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, I agree - we shouldn't get in each other's way, and we also need to remember WP:AGF, and I think we've both gotten a little overzealous in trying to one-up each other. The amount of times I've said to myself, "This is ridiculous," has become greater lately. SchuminWeb (Talk) 21:49, 26 March 2006 (UTC)
Hah. Same here - agreed. --Strothra 22:25, 26 March 2006 (UTC)

Shah Mahmoud Hanifi

Oops, thanks for pointing that out. I've fixed it. --W.marsh 02:13, 27 March 2006 (UTC)

Inuse

Not to interrupt you, I just wanted to commend you on your use of inuse and "save points". When I saw that in my watchlist, I was confused, but then I saw what you were doing, and I liked it. :) --Golbez 01:33, 30 March 2006 (UTC)

Maybe you can help

Could take a look at the article National Security Archive for me? I have done quite a bit of work on it which it seems two individuals are attempting to slice and dice. My main interest is that they are calling two of my phrases POV but I don't think that they are. I'd like a second opinion though. --Strothra 02:09, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
