[edit] Plot
Cartman excitedly brags to the other children that he is the first to reach puberty, since he's gotten his first pubes. It turns out, however, that he has only bought the pubic hairs from a 15 year old boy, Scott Tenorman (voiced by Toby Morton), and not grown it himself. Cartman is outraged at having been conned.
Cartman tries to get back his $10 through various methods, but is always outwitted by Scott, and even loses an additional $6.12 in the process. As he plots his revenge he first attempts to get his friends on his side; but because Cartman is the only victim, none are interested.
Cartman's first major plan involves training one of Farmer Denkins' ponies to bite Scott's wiener off. He trains one to attack a scarecrow with a hot dog hanging from its pants. The pony doesn't bite it off the first time, instead performing fellatio on it. Jimbo and Ned turn up, stating that the best way to humiliate Scott is to exploit his weaknesses. After discovering that Scott likes the band Radiohead, Cartman comes up with scheme that involves dubbing his voice over that of Radiohead to make it appear that the band is telling Kurt Loder that Scott Tenorman is "totally not cool." This plan fails, and Scott further humiliates Cartman by showing the entire town a movie of Cartman pretending to be a pig in order to get his money back.
Cartman then proceeds to carry out a variation of his plan to get Scott's wiener bitten off. He invites Radiohead (Scott's favorite band) to come to South Park to meet Scott (who is, according to the letter, dying from cancer in his ass) and asks if they are free "next Tuesday around 5." Stan and Kyle betray Cartman, telling Scott about Cartman's plan. Cartman invites Scott to a chili cookoff, telling him that he can have a free pony ride at the event. Scott, who thinks he knows what Cartman's plan is, tells his parents that there is an abandoned pony at Farmer Denkins' place. The parents go to Farmer Denkins in order to have the pony sent to an animal shelter. Scott decides to once again humiliate Cartman by having all the teenagers put their pubic hair in Scott's chili and watch Cartman eat it.
At the cook off, everybody is waiting for Cartman to get humiliated (except for Chef, who brought his own chili). Scott eats Cartman's chili first, and then taunts Cartman to do the same. When Cartman has eaten most of a bowl of Scott's chili, Scott begins to tell Cartman what he did. However, Cartman has anticipated Scott's move, and reveals that he switched Scott's chili with Chef's. He explains that he knew that Stan and Kyle were going to tell Scott about his original plan. He also explains that he knew that, as Scott wouldn't want his wiener bitten off, he would send someone to get the pony for him, most likely his parents. What Scott didn't know is that Farmer Denkins is a crazy redneck who shoots trespassers on sight. Knowing this, Cartman warned Denkins that violent pony killers were in the area, knowing that Denkins wouldn't want his favorite pony killed. Denkins shot Scott's parents, having seen Scott's dad's flashlight and Cartman stole the bodies and spent the night chopping the bodies up with a hacksaw and cooking them into his "Mr and Mrs Tenorman Chilli, which Cartman reveals he has just fed to Scott. Scott (and everyone else present) is horrified, and devastated at the loss of his parents. At that moment, right on cue (and exactly on Cartman's schedule), Radiohead shows up. They see Scott sobbing and mock him for being a "crybaby" and "totally not cool".
Finally, as Scott is crying over the death of his parents, Cartman licks the tears off of Scott's face, remarking that they are "yummy and sweet" as well as calling them "the tears of unfathomable sadness". Kyle remarks to Stan "Dude, I don't think we should ever piss off Cartman again." The episode ends with Cartman imitating Porky Pig in an homage to old Looney Toons cartoons.
[edit] Kenny's Death
- Dies laughing while watching Scott's video of Cartman pretending to be a pig. His spirit can very briefly be seen ascending from his body, still laughing from something so funny that it killed him. Stan and Kyle struggle through their laughter to say their normal "post-Kenny's death" catchphrase
[edit] Trivia
- The plot of this episode is based on a short story by Guy de Maupassant[citation needed], and contains elements of Hannibal (Mason Verger's plan to feed Hannibal Lecter feet first to a pack of man-eating pigs), and Shakespeare's Titus Andronicus. This episode also echoes the story of Thyestes in Greek mythology, whose sons are killed and fed to him by his brother Atreus after Thyestes cheats with Atreus' wife Aerope.
- Early in the episode, Kyle states Scott is in the 9th grade. Then, in the middle of the episode, he states he is in the 8th grade.
- In the episode "The Death of Eric Cartman", Cartman tries to atone to Scott for this treatment (among many, many other sins), by bringing him a fruit basket.
- In the episode "Cartoon Wars Part I", Cartman asks "Bart" the worst thing he has ever done. After Bart tells Cartman, Cartman remarks by saying when he didn't like this kid (Scott), he ground his parents into chili and fed it to the kid.
- This episode is unique in the show's history in that Cartman gets his way in the end. In most other episodes, a Cartman plan will backfire horribly, but this time it instead succeeds horribly, producing one of the most grotesque twist endings in South Park history.
- Scott Tenorman Must Die was the first episode produced for season five of South Park, and its production number is 501. However, it was delayed for three weeks, and first shown on July 11, 2001.
- In a part of the episode, Cartman tells Scott that his (Cartman's) grandma is going to die if he doesn't give the doctor $16.12. Two episodes later (in airdate order) in "Cartmanland", his grandma actually does die.
- As in “Cat Orgy” and “4th Grade,” Cartman quotes Pink Floyd's song “Pigs (Three Different Ones)” by taunting "Ha ha, charade you are."
- Cartman's "That's all Folks!" parody of Porky Pig at the end of the episode is possibly an ironic reference to an earlier event in the episode in which Cartman gets on his knees and says "I'm a little piggy, here's my snout...". Although in the Greatest Hits Volume 1 commentary Trey Parker said the episode was supposed to be a Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner style battle between Cartman and Scott Tenorman.
- In "Terrance and Phillip: Behind the Blow", Cartman threatens to make Phillip eat his parents.
- was voted the best south park episode on the IMDB.com
