[edit] My RFA
Hey, thanks so much for supporting my recent RFA. A number of editors considered that I wasn't ready for the mop yet and unfortunately the RFA did not succeed (69/26/11). There are a number of areas which I will be working on (including changing my username) in the next few months in order to allay the fears of those who opposed my election to administrator.
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you sincerely for your support over the past week. I've been blown away by the level of interest taken in my RFA and appreciate the time and energy dedicated by all the editors who have contributed to it, support, oppose and neutral alike. I hope to bump into you again soon and look forward to serving you and Wikipedia in any way I can. Cheers! Hi Shadow1, apologies if this is in the wrong place, but I have been stopped from adding some legitimate links to [1]by your bot - could you explain why there is a block on any links from [2]? Thanks Danlyndon
[edit] Shadowbot Revert.
Shadowbot revert Until June (a page I created today). He thought I added spam to the external links but this is not true. Here was the message it sent me:
Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia, Mister Pine! However, your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove spam from Wikipedia. If you were trying to insert a good link, please accept my creator's apologies, but please note that the link you added in is on my spam blacklist and should not be included in Wikipedia. Please read Wikipedia's external links policy for more information. If your link was genuine spam, please note that inserting spam into Wikipedia is against policy. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks! Shadowbot 04:40, 12 January 2007 (UTC)
The links that I added are official links that belong with the subject of the page. If you could undo this for me, then thanks. If I need to revert it myself, that's fine as well as long as it doesn't say it's spam again. --Mister Pine 05:11, 12 January 2007 (UTC)
- The page is no longer there, or I would have investigated further. You could have reverted Shadowbot's revert yourself. -- Jeff G. 17:38, 12 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Link Spammer
Hello Shadow1 I just wanted to let you know about User:BackupAnyDVD. This person's only three edits were to link spam this webpage http://www.backupanydvd.com/. I reverted two of the three (the third was already done) and left the user a note, perhaps slightly curt but this kind of stuff really irritates me. Just thought you'd like to add this to your bot. Have a nice day, Tschuess. Naufana : talk 00:47, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Remove me from Shadowbot2's spam-list

[edit] Shadowbot biting newcomers?
Hi there! I just came across this edit that Shadowbot made. If you look at the two edits made by that IP & its contribution history, it seems like a clear case of a new user test editing. Shadowbot only recognized the second edit that included "example.com" and I reverted the keyboard salad myself. I also replaced Shadowbot's spam warning on the editor's talk page with a test1 warning instead.
I wonder, since "example.com" isn't a valid URL and really can't be spam, could you soften up the language of the warning Shadowbot gives if it detects this particular URL? While vandals do use it to mess with pages, I imagine a lot of instances of it on Wikipedia are similar to the above case. I think it's better to let a few vandals off lightly than to bite the newcomers, don't you? Thanks for your attention, and have a great day! --Elipongo (Talk|contribs) 02:07, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
- Uhm... it's been close to a week now. I'm sure you've been busy and didn't get the chance to reply to my note, but I would appreciate it if you could give me your input on this. Thanks!

- Thanks for the link JeffGent, however it isn't pertinent to the question I'm asking Shadow1. Shadowbot should indeed be looking for example.com because that's the URL that come up by default if you just hit the "external links" button on top of the edit window, like this [http://www.example.com link title]. Because it's right up there on top of the edit box, it's frequently used by newbie testers and casual vandals. My point here is that since a good proportion of the edits containing that URL are likely to be test edits, then Shadowbot's output should be a little more gentle to conform with WP:BITE. Thanks! --Elipongo (Talk|contribs) 10:46, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] What's with your definition of "spam"???
How in the world is this considered to be "spam"? How do you define "spam", anyhow? (This came up in this revert by your "bot".) +ILike2BeAnonymous 19:12, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Of course
I'm well aware, although I wasn't trying to include that image in the article. I posted the link to it, since that link/image was to be used as a reference (at the bottom of the article, not in the article itself)... but whatever. :) Lmz00 21:38, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

I keep getting this message OVER AND OVER. That stupid orange bar won't go away telling me I have a new message when I already read the dumb message! I releize I screwed up I am a new wiki user and I'm tired of that You have new messages (last change). thing at the top.
- Hello, this has been fixed. It was not Shadowbot restoring the warning message, but another user. I have informed the anonymous user of this. Heimstern Läufer 08:21, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] The Bot is a meany
I have said this elsewhere and I will say it here... I appreciate what you are doing in trying to eliminate spam from wikipedia. What burns me up is that shadowbot's message to my talk page and on the revert edit line accused me of "spamming." This is labeling-type language comes of as hostile to me and likely to others judging form the comments above. also, I really do wonder what is up with the "blacklist"... where is this blacklist? ... if you mean the 'avoid' paragraph in WP:EL then I think you are taking that too seriously. Yes, I agree that they should be avoided, but that's not the same as a blacklist. We should look at this on a case by case basis and I feel you are using shadowbot and th wikispam project to "crush" attempts to re-add such links. As for the United Church of Christ page, I think we can handle that on its talk page. See Wikipedia talk:External links#taking avoid literally (esp myspace) for this discussion.
