[edit] Background
Sheila Ellis Hixson has been the Democratic Delegate from District 20 in Montgomery County, MD. Elected in 1976, she is the chair of the Ways and Means Committee, a member of the Rules and Executive Nominiations, Legislative Policy, Joint Audit, and Spending Afforability committees.
[edit] Education
Hixson received her B.A. from Northern State Teachers College.
[edit] Career
After college, Hixson was a Head Start teacher in Detroit, Michigan. She later was a campaign manager and aide to U.S. Representative William D. Ford.
As a delegate in Maryland she proposed that Maryland join other states to require presidential electors to vote for the winner of the national popular vote rather than the outcome of the state elections. State Senator Jamie Raskin is sponsoring the same bill in the Maryland General Assembly.[1]
